Obituary

Ken was the youngest of 6 children and the baby of the DeHayes family. He was loved by his mother Caroline, his father, Alvin, and his older siblings-Mildred, Thelma, Ovid, Alvin and Gerald. Ken met his lifelong friend, Joe Bianchi, at East Commerce High School, where he was class president and Joe was vice-president of their class. The two have been best friends for over 70 years.
After high school graduation, both entered the service. Ken loved planes his entire life but was disqualified to fly due to his color blindness. However the army knew a man who loved numbers and put him in a group that used a newly developed IBM system. He was proud to have participated in the Battle of the Bulge.
After the service, Ken met his first love, Jane Frazho, with whom he had four daughters-Deb, Kim, Pat, and Jan. He purchased his first and only home in St. Clair Shores in 1950, where he raised his family.
At the same time using the GI Bill, he attended night school and graduated from the University of Detroit in Accounting and Financing. Thereafter he worked in accounting at Park Motor Sales, Chrysler Dealer Enterprise, and Roseville Chrysler Plymouth. Even in retirement he continued to do accounting for his daughter and son-in-law at Three C's Landscaping.
After the death of his wife, Jane, he reconnected with the second love of his life, Jean McNeill, whom he had also met and even dated back at East Commerce High School. Connections were very important in his life. They married and a fifth daughter plus two grandsons joined the family. They loved, danced, and bowled over the next 39 years together.
The five daughters began having families of their own and soon Ken had eighteen grandchildren: nine grandsons and nine granddaughters. But it didn't end there, by 2012 Ken had three great-granddaughters!
Ken loved his family and his friends dearly. He encouraged them to be the best they could be by example of his caring and honesty. We are all thankful to have had 88 wonderful years with our husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend!
