Obituary

Russell, Kenneth 87, retired vocational auto shop teacher and World War II Marines Corps veteran, peacefully passed into the presence of his Lord on Wednesday, January 4, 2012, with his family at his side. In late 2007, Ken and his wife Joanne made Payson their year round home. Ken built his summer cabin home here in Payson in 1986. They are active in Ponderosa Bible Church. Ken enjoyed helping folks fix their cars, traveling with Joanne, participating in church activities, being involved with the Marine Corps Veterans group, and visiting his family. 87, retired vocational auto shop teacher and World War II Marines Corps veteran, peacefully passed into the presence of his Lord on Wednesday, January 4, 2012, with his family at his side. In late 2007, Ken and his wife Joanne made Payson their year round home. Ken built his summer cabin home here in Payson in 1986. They are active in Ponderosa Bible Church. Ken enjoyed helping folks fix their cars, traveling with Joanne, participating in church activities, being involved with the Marine Corps Veterans group, and visiting his family. As a Marine Field Music First Class and Rifle Sharpshooter, Ken served in various Head Quarter sections in the Pacific Theater during World War II. For 30 years, Ken taught in the Phoenix Union High School District at South Mountain, Camelback, and Phoenix Union high schools. He is survived by his wife Joanne Selvey, sons Rick of San Diego and Gary of Phoenix, brothers Carl of Phoenix and James of Albuquerque, 7 grandchildren, and 3 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 50 years, Carol Smith Russell. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, January 8, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. at Ponderosa Bible Church, 1800 N. Beeline Highway, Payson, AZ. A visitation will be held on Monday, January 9, 2012 at 12:30 p.m. with funeral service to follow at 1:00 p.m., at Greenwood Memory Lawn Mortuary Chapel, 719 N. 27th Ave., Phoenix, AZ. Friends of Ken and Joanne are invited to share in celebrating Ken's life. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Ponderosa Bible Church Building Fund. Arrangements under the direction of Greenwood Memory Lawn Mortuary, Phoenix, AZ.
