Kenneth Thompson, 92, passed away on Wednesday December 28 peacefully. He was born on December 17, 1924 in Syracuse, New York to Eva and Oswald Thompson. Ken grew up in Colorado graduating from Ouray High School in 1942.
He is a WWII veteran who was drafted into the army in 1943 and assigned to the 104th Timberwolves Infantry Division, 415 Regiment Cannon Company. The battle slogan of the Timberwolf Division was "Nothing in hell can stop the Timberwolves." Ken was honorably discharged in January 1946 at Ft. Logan. After graduating with a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from University of Colorado, Ken worked for the U.S. Civil Service at Lowry Air Force Base and Motorola in Arizona. Ken returned to Colorado in 1960 to work for Martin Marietta working on such projects as the Viking Mars Lander and Peacekeeper missiles, retiring after 30 years.
Ken married Marilyn Mohr Smith in May of 1956 and they raised 4 children Jenny, Andy, Greg and Matt. His loving wife Marilyn died of cancer in 1988. Ken enjoyed fishing, camping, softball, bridge, cooking, and ballroom dancing. As a soccer coach for 18 years, Ken was involved in the development of the Littleton Soccer program. Ken volunteered 43 years with Operation Santa Claus, providing food and gifts to hundreds of area families at Christmas, many of those years as the grocery Chairman. Ken met his significant other, Marlene Parrish in 1994 through mutual friends and dancing. Ken and Marlene have enjoyed traveling, attending Timberwolf reunions, and dancing for 22 years.
Ken was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn S. Thompson and sister, Maxiene Thompson. Survivors include his significant other Marlene Parrish, daughter Jenny Thompson, sons, Andy Thompson, Greg Thompson, and Matt Thompson, brother, Charles Thompson.
Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 am, Friday, January 6, 2017 at Littleton UMC, 5894 S Datura St, Littleton. Burial will be held in Olinger Chapel Hill Mortuary.

Ken was a good man. I did not know him well, but his parents and sister, Maxeine were dear to me and my family and he cared for her. He also cam to my father's funeral which meant a lot to my mother.

Ken Thompson was a great man who raised some great kids! I wish I could be there to celebrate his life today with "the whole gang". Kenny was my mom Barbara J. Roy (Yates) cousin. His mom was my Grandpa Fred Yates' sister. We loved him for his big heart and courage. He always kept in touch with us and came to many special occasions. You will be missed Kenny. Prayers and hugs to all!
