The old Oiler boys had quite a trip down memory lane as we grieved Kings passing. I lost my mom and dad this past year and know the sting of death. Knowing King fom the Oiler days, I would guess he is in Heaven, sizing up the angles and looking for that one with a good arm and a calm demeanor. My sympathy to your family and blessed be Kings soul.

I wish I had been able to come to the funeral. I am sorry that he had to
suffer so long. My husband who died in 2008 was King's golf partner some
of the time in high school. Wayne was very fond of King and I was so pleased that he was able to come see Wayne before he died and came to his
funeral. King was a great man and athlete and friend. Love, Claryce Talbert

My Dad was Sports Information Director for Rice from 1950=1986. He was so very proud of King and his teammates for being" Men of Honor" and living to a standard of excellence after playing at Rice. He especially was proud of King and spoke of him often in his later years. #26 has and will always remind me of a great athlete,Coach. and Man. Stobie Whitmore

My condolences to King's family, you are in my prayers. I didn't know King very well; I had the pleasure of meeting King at the Reliance Stadium during the Texans / Titans game in 2010. As we sat on the side lines during game warm up waiting to see Jeff Fisher we chit chatted about different subjects, football, golf and illness. He was telling me about his grandson finding an old football photo and he asks King if he was any good, and his humble answer was average. Grandson asks do you care if I keep this photo, King said you sure may, and that photo was now hanging on his grandson wall. You could see that twinkle in King's eyes as he told this story. King was a great inspiration to all who met him, kind, and soft spoken true gentleman. I know as King comes through the gates of Heaven my Daughter Jordan will lead him through the streets of Heaven. God Bless.

July 18, 2012

I was saddened to hear of the passing of King Hill. I was a classmate of his at Rice, one year ahead, and played in the same backfield with him. I always condidered King to be the best natural athlete to go through Rice. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family in this time need.

Our condolences to the Hill family at your loss. We did not know King, except in the reflection of his son, Cody, who is an outstanding man in his own right. The nut doesn't fall far from the tree and I can see the truth in that from everyone else's comments about King. May his soul rest in peace.

July 17, 2012

Our hearts are with you, Sha and Cody, at this sorrowful time. King was such a positive role model and example to many young men. He was an outstanding friend and coach. It was a pleasure knowing him and getting to coach with him. God bless your family. John Paul & Dolores Young

Aunt Sha and family:

Uncle King,
God saw you were getting tired
And it was not meant to be,
So he put his arms around you
And whispered, ‘come to me''.
With tearful eyes they watched you go
And saw you pass away,
Although we loved you dearly
We could not make you stay.
A golden heart stopped beating
Hard working hands at rest
God broke our hearts to prove to us
He only takes the best.

Love!

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

The 1957 season and the exploits of King was part of my growing up. My connection to Rice was in large part started by him and his teammates. As I think of King, I see wonderful summer days and our neighborhood gang all playing baseball on the wide area of space between the houses on 5th and 6th streets. Our greatest concern was to keep King from hitting the only baseball we had too far into the drainage ditch. He was the only one who could hit that far.
He was a good friend then, and continued to be as years went by. He is missed. Ginger Ryley Powers Santa Fe Tx.
