Obituary

Kristoffer Hogsbro, a resident of Scarsdale, was born in Esbjerg in Denmark on April 5, 1965, before being adopted by Mr. and Mrs Holm out of Klampenborg, Denmark. From an early age, Kristoffer loved the sciences, loved building Legos with his dad, and had a very happy childhood with his sister Emily in a close knit family with countless cousins. At the age of 12, he discovered computer science for the first time, as part of an afterschool program. It was love at first sight, and from that moment on, his career as a computer scientist was sealed. At age 17 he began studying computer science and physics at the University of Copenhagen. He...
He also dedicated substantial time to student politics, where he served as the head of the student organization through several elections. When he graduated with his master thesis, he earned the silver medal, given by the University; something which prompted him to be personally thanked by the Queen of Denmark. It was during his time as a student, that he met his future wife, Eva Rose, a computer scientist herself. They married in September 7, 1991 i the Garnisions Church in the center of Copenhagen. On January 22, 1999, they had their only and very beloved son, Sofus A.H. Rose. Kristoffer had another passion: singing. For many years, he sang with the Bonevox student choir, as well as with a barbershop group, Barbervox, who earned the title for best barbershop of Denmark. Many co-singers have remained close friends throughout his life.
After graduating with a Ph.D. from the University of Copenhagen, Kristoffer and his wife ventured to France, where Kristoffer took an academic teaching position at Ecole Normale Superieur de Lyon. At the same time, Kristoffer made important contributions to the open source, Debian community.
While in France, an offer to join the T.J Watson research group at a IBM in New York was made, and the couple moved over the Atlantics to pursue new opportunities with their young son. Kristoffer made a series of important contributions to the rewrite community, and developed a very important commercially viable product in compiler constructions, which up until recently has been professionally deployed.
In 2014, Kristoffer moved to Two Sigma Investments as a research scientist in the financial industry. He also started teaching compiler construction at New York University with his wife Eva Rose, as adjunct professors. In his spare time, he played tennis at Fox Meadow tennis club in Scarsdale, where he had many good and devoted friends.
Last year, Kristoffer was unfortunately diagnosed with myelo fibrosis, which unfortunately was very aggressive in him, and ultimately cost him his life. He died after prolonged illness on September 17, 2016.
Kristoffer is and will be missed incredibly. He died far too young. We encourage donations by check to the "Leukemia Fighters/ New York-Presbyterian Hospital", c/o Dr. Gail. J. Roboz, 520 East 70th street, box 403, New York, NY. 10021 in Kristoffer's name, to help fund research into this terrible illness.
A Memorial Service will be held on September 30, 2016 at 11 am, at the Danish Seamens Church in Brooklyn, 102 Willow Street, New York, followed by a reception at the Church.
Kristoffer is survived by his wife Eva, and their son Sofus.
We will miss you terribly Kristoffer.

Arrangements under the direction of Edwin L. Bennett Funeral Homes, Scarsdale, NY.
