Kyle Byrd Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 16, 2017.

Kyle Kevin Byrd, 57, of Evansville, passed away Sunday, May 14, 2017. He was born December 31, 1959, in Evansville, to the late Robert R. and Della (Sawyer) Byrd.

He enjoyed baseball and racing and was a St. Louis Cardinals and Green Bay Packers fan; Kyle was a big "cheesehead." He had a gift of humor and could make anyone laugh.

Kyle ~ Our laughter will never be as it was when we were with you. Our family will never be the same without you. In heaven we know your light shines brightly. Spread your wings and fly free, Byrd, until we meet again.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Pam Byrd.

Kyle is survived by his brothers, Dan, Tim (Rosemarie), Russell, and Mark Byrd; nieces and nephews, Holly Byrd-Knollenberg, Alison Byrd, Cori Byrd-Newland, Jessica Byrd, and Tori Trodglen; great-nieces and nephew, Chelsey and Kylee Knollenberg and Oliver Newland.

Memorial Services will be 7:00 PM Thursday, May 18, 2017, at Alexander East Chapel, officiated by Chaplain Tom Hubachek. Friends may visit Thursday from 3:00 PM until service time and Friday from 9:00 to 11:00 AM at the funeral home.

Mark,
I'm so sorry about Kyle's passing. I was unable to attend visitation, and I hate I couldn't be there to at least give you a hug. So many happy memories spent at your house. You, Della, and Kyle have always seemed like family to me. I'll be praying for you and your brothers.

Mr. Byrd, it seems like yesterday we were traveling around with the Post 8 Grand Funks (even had a Funk team pic in your gallery!). As we spoke fairly recently, those were great teams & great times. I loved playing ball, and riding busses with you. It was a pleasure being your teammate. RIP, my friend.

Kyle,
You were my Uncle from the moment my mom started working at Eyemart. You will forever have a place in my heart with all the joy and laughter you brought my Mom (and me when I came in). Thank you for everything.
Fly high my friend. Love you lots.

Kyle was a great man, I was blessed enough to be able to spend almost three years working with him. I told him several times that he was like a dad to me. He was so quick to make you laugh, but if you ever needed to talk to someone he was right there for you. I don't know how many times I spoke with him about things going on in my life. He is deeply missed. Until we meet again.

I'm so sorry for your loss. Your family felt like my family. Kyle was my best friend growing up. Your home was so much fun to be at because there was always laughter. Most of my childhood adventures were with Kyle and your family. Camping, swimming, and every kind of game. Seeing the pictures of you all together was so good to know you stayed close. Time passes way to quickly. Im thankful for the memories. THinking of you all. Rest in Peace Kyle.

We had a nice gang of friends, guys and gals, at Murray State in 1977-81ish. Blue was a pitcher, I think, for MSU Thoroughbreds for a time. When that didn't work out, he humbly and proudly joined our Unknown Comic intramural teams. When, shockingly, that didn't work out, we gave him a farewell Blue Bird night on campus radio station WKMS. He is still only the former student in Murray State history to have an entire show devoted to him. Wish we still had the tape. Kyle Bird was a great one. All the best to his loved ones.

I worked with Kyle for around 5 years. Although a lot of time has passed since I left that job, we always stayed in contact and we could pick up like no time at all had passed. He was just that kind of friend. My deepest condolences to his family. There just aren't words for a loss like this.

He was "my" quarterback at HHS . . . think we connected for a few TDs. As great a man as QB. I'll miss seeing him at our reunions.
God rest his soul.

So terribly sad to hear this news. RIP "Blue." You were such an amazing inspiration, friend and brother to me, and an incredibly talented, driven athlete. You were also one of the funniest persons I have ever met. I remember as a kid after running 5 miles with you, you knocking on my window a few hours later asking me if I wanted to run another 3 miles - geez you were hard to keep up with. You were also one of the first true fans of my music career early on - that meant more to me than you ever knew. The Byrd Family half-raised me and I owe all of you so much, and certainly share in your loss. Much love and respect. Don "Buddy" Blackburn

Brother, I can't find words for the pain I am feeling. It is like another one of mom and dad's byrd eggs has fallen out of its nest and passed away. You were there for the good times but most important the bad times. Say hi to mom. dad, and sis from us remaining Byrds. I will never forget your love for me! We already miss you! You were not only my brother but my father too. Can't tell how much that meant to me. You taught me how to live life! Now you are gone way too soon. I love you. Mark....... RIP brother

Haven't much contact with Kyle "Blue", for sometime.
But, played for his Father, at East Little League.
Blue, joined Wesselmans, few years later, when Larry Collins took over.
Attended Harper and later played baseball again with him, at Harrison.
Always enjoyed my time with Kyle.
First true switch hitter, I can remember, playing ball with.
He loved to see left hand pitchers, so he could turn around and hit from the other side.

Peace to his family

So sorry to hear of Kyle's passing. I had the great fortune to work with as well as play ball with Kyle many moons ago. We hit it off quickly since both of us were Cardinals and Packers fans. He will be missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Rest In Peace, Byrdy.

I worked with Kyle at Eyemart. We have a very small store so we are like family and Kyle was like our big brother. If we needed to vent or just step away for a minute we knew we could go to the lab and we also know that Kyle would turn around and make us laugh before we walked back out that door. It will never be the same without him there. He will truly be missed by his work family.

My heart is broken! I was given the opportunity to work with Kyle for a little over a year at Eye Mart. He was always fun to be around. Said some of the strangest things but he knew how to make everyone smile. He taught me so much while working with him. Kyle you will be missed by so many people! Rest in heaven peacefully! Love you Kyle!
