L. Glenn Van Syckle Sr., 90, died at home on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 with his beloved wife of 62 years by his side. He was born on April 4, 1922 and was raised in Asbury Park, NJ. As a boy, Glenn was an Eagle Scout and graduated from Asbury Park High School in 1940. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps, 8th Air Force Div, 401st Heavy Bombardment Group and was a B-17 bomber pilot. L. Glenn Van Syckle Sr., 90, died at home on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 with his beloved wife of 62 years by his side. He was born on April 4, 1922 and was raised in Asbury Park, NJ. As a boy, Glenn was an Eagle Scout and graduated from Asbury Park High School in 1940. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps, 8th Air Force Div, 401st Heavy Bombardment Group and was a B-17 bomber pilot. He attended Purdue University on the GI bill and received his degree in mechanical engineering graduating in 1949. After graduation, he met and married the love of his life Regina Marie (nee Curran). A long time resident of Spring Lake, he raised twelve wonderful children. Glenn was a devout Roman Catholic who embodied a generous spirit, deep moral compass, patriotic integrity and a childlike enthusiasm capturing the imagination of those around him. Even with his courageous service to country and family, Glenn was a very humble man with a wonderful sense of humor. He served as a long-time Boy Scout leader, little league coach, and member of the St. Mark's Holy Name Society in Sea Girt.
Glenn worked as an engineer at Fort Monmouth, NJ and retired after 33 years. He continued to support the Army as a consultant for 10 additional years. His favorite past time was creating memories with his loving wife, devoted children, adoring grandchildren and great grandchildren

He was predeceased by his mother, Marie Louise Schmitt Van Syckle; father Leon Howard Van Syckle and his brother, Adam Bruce Van Syckle. Glenn is survived by his wife, Regina Van Syckle of Tinton Falls, NJ and by his children, Kathleen and John Solu of Madison, NJ; Regina and Warren Harvey of Sparta, NJ; Mary Ann and Steven Lesnewich of Berkeley Heights, NJ; Robert Van Syckle of St. Paul, MN; Grace and Emerson Keslar of Wall, NJ; Margaret Mary Van Syckle of Spring Lake, NJ; Glenn and Maura Van Syckle of Bel Air, MD; Rosemary and Robert Luisi of Spring Lake Heights, NJ; Cecilia and Geoff Shrewsbury of Holland Twp NJ; Frank and Tricia Van Syckle of Bel Air, MD; Peter and Jennifer Van Syckle of Holmdel, NJ; Maria and Mike Kelly of Shark River Hills, NJ. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Claire and Ken Burd; Kara and Josh Franklin; Sue, Kate, and Tom Harvey; Steve and Krista Lesnewich; Caroline and Dan Keslar; Jack, Dan and Liam Van Syckle; Chris and Alex Luisi; Matthew and Dylan Shrewsbury; Andrew, Victoria and Annalise Van Syckle; Jenna and Peter Van Syckle; and Timothy, Emily and Julia Kelly. Glenn is also survived by four great grandchildren: Jackson Burd, Theodore Franklin, Dezarae and Anthony Shrewsbury. He is also survived by many wonderful sisters and brother-in-law, nieces, and nephews.
Visitation will be at the Neary Quinn Funeral Home, 39 South Street, Manasquan, Friday, August 3, 2012 from 2 - 4 pm and 7 – 9 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 705 2nd Avenue, Asbury Park, on Saturday, August 4, 2012 at 9:00am. Interment will follow at St. Catharine Cemetery in Wall Twp.
