LAVERNE IRIS KERN ASHER
2/5/30-12/18/12
LaVerne was born in Wenatchee, WA to Clay Edwin Kern & Arline Ruth Kaiser Kern.
As a young girl she moved to a remote Northern Nevada settlement known as Rowland. She & her siblings attended a one room school until they moved to Elko, NV when she was in the 8th grade.
LaVerne went to Elko High School and attended a business college in Reno, NV.
After graduation she returned to Elko where she met Jack. They were married June 14, 1952 in Elko, NV.
Jack's work took them to Nampa, Burley & lastly to Twin Falls, Idaho in 1958. They raised their 4 children in Twin Falls.
LaVerne was active in the First Baptist church, various women's groups & service groups in the Magic Valley.
She & Jack celebrated 60 years of marriage in Twin Falls this past summer.
We know she is hiking in heaven in more beautiful mountains than possible on earth. She is enjoying flowers & nature in ways these last several years haven't allowed her to do. Most importantly she's with Jesus & will never suffer pain again.
LaVerne is survived by her loving husband Jack, children, Melody Asher (Michael McBride) of Twin Falls, Brad (Kathy) Asher of Twin Falls & Tamara Akiyama of Beaverton, OR. Son Clay was killed in a tragic work accident 1977. She has 4 grandchildren, Colleen Asher (Taylor Bell) of Boise, Emily Asher of Filer, Sarah Asher (Chad Thomason) of Jerome, ID and Steven Akiyama of Beaverton, OR & one great grandson Wyatt Annis of Filer. She is also survived by all 3 of her siblings, Duane Kern, Donna Bellinger both of Elko, NV, and Joan Conner of Rohnert Park, CA.
We will carry on the values you taught us. We will love, give and care for others. Mom lived a simple life, never complained and was always satisfied with this life.
She will be eternally loved, missed forever and is never to be forgotten. Funeral services will be held on Saturday December 22, 2012 at 1:00 pm at the Twin Falls First Baptist Church, 910 Shoshone St N, Twin Falls, ID, with interment to follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Dustin Godfrey and the staff at White Mortuary "Chapel by the Park". Donations may be made to the Twin Falls First Baptist Church Missionary Fund or the Twin Falls Senior Citizen Center.

I am sad to hear of LaVerne's passing, and offer my condolences to you, Jack, and your children, and all others close to her.
LaVerne was my neighbor across the street from the time I was three. She and Jack and their kids were always so nice to me and my family. I stayed in touch with Jack and LaVerne into adulthood before leaving the US. LaVerne always had a moment for me, walnuts and plums, new pictures of their kids and grandkids and then great grandkids to show. She was kind, sensible, and solid. I know her and Jack's prayers were always with me as I traveled. Mine goes out for them tonight. God bless you on your way to Heaven, LaVerne. Thank you for all your gentle attentions.
