LaVonne Cover, 86, was surrounded by her loved ones when she passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2015, at Methodist Hospital due to complications related to her cancer treatment.
She was born on November 29th, 1928, in Flandreau, South Dakota to Jim and Florence Evans. When she was 4 years old the family moved to Iowa. After attending rural schools LaVonne graduated from Calumet High School in 1946. She moved to Des Moines, Iowa to attend AIB College and met the love of her life, Ken. They were married that November and were together for 64 glorious years. They always lived in Iowa including 25 years in Clear Lake, 22 years in Mason City and 18 years in West Des Moines. It was in Clear Lake where they raised their four children.
LaVonne was a homemaker, an Avon representative, a dental assistant and a receptionist for Diamond Vogel Paint. She was a VFW auxiliary member and active in Methodist church circles. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, playing cards, dancing and taking trips with her family. LaVonne and Ken always enjoyed going to their class reunion where they would go to various areas of the U.S. with their friends. In their later years they spent hundreds of hours watching many different sporting events on TV. They were big Iowa Hawkeye fans!
