Larry Rae Fowler, 73 passed suddenly and unexpectedly on September 1, 2016 at UF Health Jacksonville.

Mr. Fowler was born and raised in Tabor City, NC. He relocated to Jacksonville, Fl. in the early 1960's. He severed in the Army National Guard from May 1965 until May of 1971 when he was honorably discharged. He worked for Blue Cross and Blue Shield from the early 1970's until the early 1980's. He finally retired after 20 years of ITS (Information Technology Service)

to Shands Jacksonville, now UF Health Jacksonville in 2012. Larry was a devoted father to his daughter Leslie and a wonderful granddaddy. After retirement, he had the opportunity to travel a bit and enjoy his two favorite sports, Golfing and watching Jaguar Football.

Larry was proceeded in death by his mother Olive Pearl Fowler as well as his father Forrest Fowler. He is survived by his daughter Leslie Rae Miller (Greg), Step Son Kenneth Prater, Jr. (Jill), 2 Sisters Barbara Housand (Billy), Suzanne McKillop, a Brother Kenneth Fowler, 3 Granddaughters Heather Miller, Rachel Miller, Caitlin Miller a Grandson Lee Prater, Niece Marsha Housand Strutz, Nephew Bryan Housand (Amanda) and 3 great nieces Courtney Sturtz, Jordan Sturtz and Brinkley Housand. He is also survived by some pretty amazing friends and golfing buddies Gene Hewett (Dee), Joe Kaperak (Beverly) and Gary.

In honoring daddy's wishes there will only be a Memorial Service on Friday the 9th of September at 11am located at the Hardage-Giddens Chapel Hills Funeral Home 850 St. Johns Bluff Road, Jacksonville, Florida 32225.His final resting place will be in Tabor City, NC.

Arrangements are under the direction of Hardage-Giddens Chapel Hills Funeral Home, Jacksonville, FL.

Larry was a unique person. He would squeeze a nickel until it screamed lol. I enjoyed working with Larry at UF Health. He was always upbeat and helpful to everyone he encountered. He was truly missed when he retired. My thoughts and prayers are with his family during this time of sorrow.
