Funeral services for Larry M. Kirk, 64, of Decatur will be Wednesday May 30, 2012, at 11 am at Roselawn Funeral Home with Kenny Barksdale officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6 to 8 pm at the funeral home. Interment will be at Polk Memorial Gardens in Columbia, TN at 3 pm. Mr. Kirk, who died Friday, May 25, 2012 after a brief battle with cancer was born November 8, 1947, in Nashville, TN to Lucy and Oscar Kirk. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mr. Kirk, who died Friday, May 25, 2012 after a brief battle with cancer was born November 8, 1947, in Nashville, TN to Lucy and Oscar Kirk. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Originally from Madison, TN, Larry graduated from Tennessee Technological University and began his career with NASA at Kennedy Space Center in Florida. His career extended to various assignments around the world and he retired from the aerospace industry in 2009. He also served with the Army National Guard for 8 years.
He was a member of Beltline Church of Christ , Morgan County Mended Hearts and served as a coaching assistant for local sports. He enjoyed traveling, cooking, gardening, youth baseball games and exploring new technology. His special humor and laughter along with his enthusiasm for life will be greatly missed by all. He dearly loved his family and friends and was extremely proud of his sons. He will be remembered as the Best Father and Friend anyone could have.
Survivors include his devoted wife of 42 years Jan. 3 sons, Michael of Decatur, Brian (Libby) of Priceville, and Matthew of Port Orchard, Washington. Beloved sister and brother-in-law, Annette and Ed Prince of Oxford, Ga, and Cousin, Caroline Pope of North Carolina.
Pallbearers will be Michael Kirk, Brian Kirk, Matthew Kirk, Ed Prince, Stephen Prince, Steve Harris, Brian Tanner and Jim Simpson. Memorials can be made to your favorite charity.
