Laura Bailey Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 6, 2012.

LAURA G. BAILEY
Laura Ethel (Goodrum) Bailey, 85, of Walpole, NH and Wildwood, FL, died Friday morning at her residence following a period of declining health.

She was born on January 3, 1927 in Westmoreland, the daughter of Adam Clark Goodrum and Alice Mattie (Sullivan) Goodrum. She attended the Depot School (one room) in Westmoreland and graduated from Keene High School in 1943.

She married David James Bailey on March 3, 1962 and they lived many years in Westmoreland before moving to Walpole in 1996. After the move, they spent the summer months of each year in Walpole and traveled to Florida for the colder months.

She was a member of the Westmoreland United Church and served as church financial secretary, treasurer and on several committees for several years.

She particularly enjoyed her work as a member of the Westmoreland Town History Committee.

In later years, she became interested in genealogy and enlisted her husband's help in tracking down unknown cousins (his and hers) in both the U.S. and Canada. They also traveled to England, Ireland, and Scotland, motoring throughout the area to search from where ancestors had emigrated. Visits were made and many newfound cousins became wonderful friends. She managed to put all this information together and distributed it to both sides of the family.

Besides her husband, Mrs. Bailey is survived by a sister, Virginia Benedict of Keene and several nieces and nephews and their children. Several brothers and a sister died earlier.

A graveside service for Mrs. Bailey will be held on Tuesday, July 17th, 2012, 10:00 AM at the North Cemetery in Westmoreland. Friends are invited.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donation be made in Mrs. Laura G. Bailey's name to the Westmoreland United Church, 9 South Village Common, Westmoreland, NH 03467.

Fletcher Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 33 Marlboro St., Keene, NH is in charge of the arrangements.
