Lauren Nicole Augustin
Lauren was born September 09, 1983 in San Antonio, TX, and was a resident of Corpus Christi, TX when she tragically passed away on December 28, 2012. Lauren graduated from Robert E. Lee High School in 2001 and continued her education at Texas A&M in College Station. Lauren graduated in 2007 with a Masters in Ocean Engineering. Laurens employer has graciously contributed the following highlighting her professional career.
"Lauren Augustin joined HDR Engineering in February 2008 after graduating from Texas A&M University with a master's degree in Ocean Engineering. At HDR she worked as a coastal engineer and quickly rose to the position of Project Manager on assignments for public and private clients. In December 2011 she earned her license as a Professional Engineer in Texas. Ms. Augustin's engineering experience included a vast array of coastal work including wetlands restoration, beach nourishment, shoreline protection, dredging, construction administration, and design of scour countermeasures. An area of expertise was numerical modeling of coastal hydrodynamics such as waves, currents, and sediment transport in coastal areas across the United States.
Ms. Augustin had a particular passion for working along the Texas Gulf Coast and helped lead a number of prominent restoration projects, including some of the largest salt marsh restoration projects ever constructed in Texas and emergency nourishment of beaches in Galveston following Hurricane Ike. She played a key role in implementation of the wetlands restoration project in Nueces Bay that can be seen from the SH181 causeway between Corpus Christi and Nueces Bay. She also participated in research with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers that supported construction of the highly-successful Packery Channel inlet and jetties in Corpus Christi.
Ms. Augustin was active and well respected in her field, frequently presenting at national conferences and publishing technical papers. Within HDR, she selflessly participated as a member of the Corpus Christi office's Safety Committee, HDR's national Pathfinders committee, and led the local Pathfinders program to help recognize other employees for outstanding performance. She had a passion for protecting and improving the coast, strongly believed in teamwork for succeeding in tasks at all levels, and always made an extra effort to show appreciation to her coworkers."
In the words of Laurens friend, Stephanie "Lauren was a caring friend, daughter and fiancé'. She enjoyed art and cared immensely about nature, specifically our oceans. She fulfilled a childhood dream of working and living at the beach with her fiancé' and many pets. She loved to paint, listen to music and be near the water. She lived in Corpus Christi, but visited her home town of San Antonio as much as she could and traveled often for her job as a coastal engineer.
Lauren accomplished more in her 29 years than most do in a lifetime while lighting up many lives in the process. Was it her wry smile and quick wit? Was it her no nonsense approach to life's challenges? Lauren had a calm, caring and gentle strength of purpose in all things she undertook. Her love of the world and all things in it shined through and won the hearts of many.
Lauren is survived by her father: Adrian Augustin, mother: Cynthia Augustin-Arneson, stepfather: Mark Arneson, fiancé: Dan Michael Watson, Jr. of Corpus Christi, her grandparents: Theodore and Marjorie Dziedzic, her many aunts, uncles and cousins, especially Casey. Lauren was truly the bright light in our lives and now that light will be replaced with memories. May God and his angels watch over Lauren in heaven and love Lauren as much as Lauren was loved on earth.
A Service of Remembrance will be held Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 1:00pm at Sunset North Funeral Home.
To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.
Sponsored by Adrian Augustin, father.

Lauren was most definitely one of the beautiful people. She was always kind, loving and caring. As her Aunt Lori, I cherish the memories of the many wonderful times we spent together and treasure the close bond that we had since she was a child. I am so proud of the talented woman that she had become. I love her and miss her so and will hold her tight in my heart forever.

Lauren was an incredible, brilliant, and beautiful woman and I am so proud of her accomplishments. As her Aunt, I had the pleasure of knowing and loving her since the day she was born. She was the cherished first grandchild to my parents who absolutely adored her and fostered her love for nature, animals, and especially dogs and cats. I will miss Lauren for as long as I live and I can't believe this has happened to someone who had so much to live for and who deserved the best of everything. Lauren gave so much love and joy to our family, and she will live on in my heart forever.

I am deeply sorry for your loss. I remember when Lauren came into the world and we talked of our dreams for our kids and thru the years their accomplishments. She accomplished so much in her lifetime and was a remarkable young lady. She made you proud!
My thoughts and prayers go out to you and your family in this time of great sorrow.

Such a promising young lady. I feel so powerless to change bad events that are so indiscriminate as to take the best of us. So I want to share the deep loss you must feel as if that might help a little. I realize it doesn't help much. Then I turn and look toward tomorrow with as much hope as I can muster under the circumstances.

My condolences. I went to school with Lauren, and even at the age of 9 years, she shinned the brightest in our class. At 9 years of age, you knew she was special. Lauren you are in my thoughts and prayers.

I had the privilege of being Lauren's stepmom for several years and loved her as my own daughter. I can't imagine the depth of your sorrow in losing her at such a young age - so full of promise, so full of life and goodness. You will be in my thoughts and prayers always.

To Dan and Lauren's parents...I knew Lauren from treating her in Physical Therapy this past summer. She was always the last patient of the day and I always looked forward to seeing her as she always had a smile on her face and I loved to hear her stories about work, her wedding; and we had many discussions about her going back to school so she could possibly teach other young people about coastal engineering. We are all heartbroken here at Affiliated Therapy and share your sympathy on the loss of "one terrific young lady".

My deepest sympathy to you Adrian and your extended family...All would think having grandparents in Illinois and a granddaughter born and living in Texas would result in a non-relationship of sorts. But in reality the very oppisite was true because starting at a young age Lauren spent parts of her summer vacations living with and treasured by her grandparents Bob and Flo on their farm.
As a long time family friend I will never forget swimming/fishing for bluegill with Lauren on the Augustine Farm and have many memories of her outgoing and fun personality.

Cindy and Mark,
I have been trying to think of the right words to say, but seem to be at a loss for words. My thoughts are with you and your families as you go through this difficult journey.
I often think of all the talks that you and I had in regards to our kids while they were in highschool. We would complain and wonder what would become of them when they were adults. Well you had nothing to worry about. Lauren became a beautiful, smart and wonderful adult and I know you are very proud of her. I will keep you all in my prayers and just know that God will comfort you through this journey.
Sincerely,
Karen Ingram & Jorge Alonso

Through her generous gift of organ donation she has touched and blessed many lives who will never know how truly special she was to all who loved her. My thoughts and prayers are with her family, fiance and friends.

I knew Lauren through many conversations with her mother, Cindy in San Antonio. We both were always so impressed with her progress at A&M and then on the job in Corpus. I will miss those conversations in the future but certainly will always remember Lauren's accomplishments and what they meant to her mom and family. I am so sorry for her leaving us at such a young age, however her accomplishments in the time she was with us will always be remembered.
