He worked for Niagara Mohawk for 35 years as a lineman and retired on July 2, 1993. Ironically enough his truck number was 7293. He was also a Salesman for Browns Trailers Sales as needed.

Larry was a lifemember of the Homer Fire Department, where he served as Department President. He was the Chairman of the Homer Fireman's Field Days and was known for his great Onion Peeling Parties prior to the Field days.

He was a lifemember of the Moose Club and the Homer Elks Club.

Larry enjoyed playing softball in various leagues, bowling and was an avid golfer- often playing in tournaments with his grandson, Scott. He enjoyed camping and spent many years with the Coachmen Camping Club Chapter 80, attending many conventions throughout the country.

He served as a deacon at the Homer Congregational Church prior to moving to Florida.

Larry is survived by his 3 children Rebecca (Michael) Ruby of Naples, FL; Scott (Regina) Comfort of Cortland, NY; Vicki (Scott) Shaddock of Fair Haven, VT; and "adopted" daughter, Donna (Nancy) Crosley; six grandchildren, Scott Comfort, Jr and Kayla Comfort Grinnell, Sydni, Gable Laurence, Logan and Chloe Shaddock, and 2 great grandchildren Hope and Michael; 3 brothers Paul (Diane) Comfort of Largo, FL, Jack (Sandy) Comfort of Largo, FL, and Ben Comfort of California.

In addition to his parents, Larry was predeceased by two brothers, Clifford and Roger Comfort; two sisters, Della and Irene; and infant granddaughter, Ann Marie Comfort. Most recent was his wife of 53 years, Sheila who died in August 2011.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at the Donald L. Barber Funeral Home, 5016 N. Main St., Homer, with the Rev. Barbara Rhudy officiating. Interment in Virgil Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family. A celebration of Larry's life will follow the funeral service at the Homer Elks Lodge, 82 Cortland St., Homer.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 5-7pm at the funeral home, where an Elks Service will take place at 6:30 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Homer Fire Department P.O. Box 58, Homer, NY 13077 or to the Muscular Dystrophy Association, 3300 East Sunrise Dr., Tucson, AZ 85718 (www.mda.org/donate).
