She lived a very happy childhood working and playing on their farm in Alabama with her sisters and brothers. At age 8, she and her family moved to Texas. Lavada Senter was born on September 23, 1915, to Geneva and Edward Knight in DeKalb County, Alabama. She lived a very happy childhood working and playing on their farm in Alabama with her sisters and brothers. At age 8, she and her family moved to Texas. This was a complete departure from the lush green woods of Alabama. She adjusted well to her new life coping with the dry, hot weather of Texas. When she was 16 years old she married Lawrence Senter on December 22, 1931. Together they had 3 children, Wayne, Rose Marie and Gary.
Lavada was a dutiful housekeeper maintaining a very clean and orderly household. Her talent for interior decorating was always remarkable to all of us. Lavada also loved to sew, and in order to help out with household expenses she went back to school for a short time and became a seamstress. She became a very good seamstress and worked with everything from evening gowns, theater and ballet costumes to making nun habits at St Bernardine Hospital. Her children and grandchildren all grew up with clothes that she had made for them.
With the children all moved away from home and facing retirement age, she and Lawrence decided to go back to school and become Mobile Park Managers. The extra income would really help them financially. But most importantly they would be busy and working full time. Lavada and Lawrence did not like being idle for very long. Lavada loved working in the office doing their books and greeting people as they came into the Club House.
Lavada's children always came first in her life. She knew when each of the children had special needs and would nurture those needs in a loving way. She set forth the ethical and moral standards for her children to live by and for that we will be forever grateful. Her accomplishments were her children, her friends and her work. She will be dearly missed by all. As she looks down on us guiding us from God's side above she knows that: We love you mom and you will always be in our prayers.
