It was with sadness that I noted the passing of yet another friend. I realize we are at that point in life, but it doesn't make it any easier. I was grateful to Larry's family for posting Facebook entries over the past several months, which helped to bridge the time and distance barriers. Thank you all for that. And for you, Larry, I can only say it was my pleasure to think of you as a friend. Fly West in peace.

In May 1967 I got on a Northwest Orient 727-100 going from DCA to MSP with all stops in between for my job interview. Larry Owen saw me sitting in coach in uniform, and insisted that I move to first class. He was on his last trip as a co-pilot, and at the next stop he brought out the Captain, Bill McNulty. They insisted I ride the jump seat the rest of the way, and by the time we got to Minnie' it was feeling like old home week. Larry was a memorable person. He was not totally unique, but he did not miss it by far. Larry was a good stick, and I can't think of any other quality that he had that would please him more, for which to be recognized. I flew co-pilot for Larry on the three-holer, and I saw him fly Tom Adams' Pitts in an aerobatic contest after several years away from the sport. And Larry flew it well. Larry got an unexpected straight in' to Hong Kong once, and was high because he had not expected that approach. Larry said: I put it in a Big Slip and it was coming down like a rock, and the tower said; I didn't know you could do that with one of those. Blue Skies and Following Winds, Larry

Larry flew a Pitts Special for me to a buyer in Georgia. We shopped for warm clothing maybe a little too long.It was winter and the days were short. He made it to Grand Island Nebraska in the dark.He remarked that he was never so glad to see the rotating beacon ,the Pitts had no lights and no nav on board.

I'm sad to hear that Larry has passed from us. I knew him for years at Northwest Airlines but never flew with him. We became closer after both of us retired and I enjoyed our conversations and exchanges. He was a good guy and I'm truly sad to get the unexpected news of his passing. My heart, thoughts, and prayers go out to his wife, children, and family members.

Captain Larry Owen, was a wonderful old school Captain. I always knew he had my back... Sad to say, his aircraft... the 747-400 is going to be taken out of service.
The Aircraft, and Captains like Larry.... are a thing of the past.....
I will never forget the wonderful trips on the whale..... nor will I forget this wonderful Captain!!
RIP, my friend!!

Flew with Larry with Southern Air Transport based in Japan. He was always friendly and professional. I returned to Northwest Airlines about the same time he was hired and saw him many times on layovers. So long, Larry and Blue Skies.

My condolences to your family. My husband, deceased since 2008 ( Mel Ott ) thought highly of Larry and in jest would call him "Sir Lawrence of Miami". Apparently many funny stories between them. Very sorry for your loss and hope that your family is doing as well as can be expected in this difficult time.
