Obituary

Lawrence Tate Witherspoon, former financial analyst for Chevron, and later financial advisor for Ameriprise Financial and beloved husband of over 59 years to the late Elaine Woodburn Witherspoon, died Monday September 23, 2013 at the age of 88. He was born in Danville, Illinois, and received a Masters Degree in Economics from the University of Illinois. His love of service to others led him to active participation in numerous community service organizations. He served in leadership positions in the local chapter of the AARP, Moisant Kiwanis Club, St. Matthew's United Methodist Church, YMCA, Ponchartrain Shores Civic Association and he...
Lawrence Tate Witherspoon, former financial analyst for Chevron, and later financial advisor for Ameriprise Financial and beloved husband of over 59 years to the late Elaine Woodburn Witherspoon, died Monday September 23, 2013 at the age of 88. He was born in Danville, Illinois, and received a Masters Degree in Economics from the University of Illinois. His love of service to others led him to active participation in numerous community service organizations. He served in leadership positions in the local chapter of the AARP, Moisant Kiwanis Club, St. Matthew's United Methodist Church, YMCA, Ponchartrain Shores Civic Association and he participated in the Senior Olympics. He had an indomitable spirit of hope and optimism. He continued to be of enthusiastic service throughout his entire lifetime. He is preceded in death by brothers Robert and William Witherspoon. Survivors include his daughter Janet W. Kapusta, son-in-law Dr. Mario Kapusta, grandchildren Alyssa and Nicholas Kapusta and daughter Susan E. Witherspoon, brother John Witherspoon, sisters Sally Dickey and Ellen Witherspoon, sister-in-law Dorothy Preston and many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the visitation Saturday September 28, from 9:00am to 11:00am at St. Matthew's United Methodist Church, 6017 Camphor St., Metairie with the Funeral Service beginning at 11:00am. Interment will be in Miriam Cemetery in Maryville, MO. In lieu of flowers the family asks that you consider a donation in his name to St. Matthew's United Methodist Church or Methodist Home for Children of greater New Orleans PO Box 1747 Mandeville, LA 70470.
