Leah Frances Herkes Perniciaro passed away on Sunday, September 10, 2017 at the age of 82. She was the cherished wife of 63 years to Charles “Mr. Charlie” Perniciaro Sr. Beloved mother of her two loving sons who meant the world to her, Charles V. Perniciaro Jr. (Nicolle) and David J. Perniciaro. Proud grandmother of her pride and joy, Charles V. Perniciaro III and Nicolas P. Perniciaro. She is also survived and fondly remembered by her sister-in-law who was very special to her, Ethel Herkes; her two nieces, Anna H. Bordelon and Cheryl H. Caro, along with many cousins, relatives and dear friends. Leah was preceded in death by her parents, Leon A. Herkes and Leah M. Lalanne Herkes, along with her siblings, Leon H. Herkes (Ethel) and Warren J. Herkes.
Leah was born in New Orleans, LA and was a longtime resident of St. Bernard Parish where she enjoyed raising her family and enjoying the simple pleasures of life and caring for others. She was well loved and affectionately known for her good nature and generous heart. She will be deeply missed by her family and by all those whose lives she touched.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a visitation to be held at ST. BERNARD MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME, 701 W. Virtue St., Chalmette, LA on Thursday, September 14th from 1:00PM – 3:00PM, followed by a funeral service in Leah’s Memory beginning at 3:00PM. She will be laid to rest in St. Bernard Memorial Gardens.
