Lee Hartmann Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 26, 2013.

Lee Robert Hartmann, age 76, of Orlando, Florida, formerly of Bradenton, passed away peacefully on September 26 after a courageous battle with cancer. He was constantly surrounded by his loving family the last months of his life.

Lee was born in Jersey City, NJ to William and Adele (Muller) Hartmann on July 5, 1937. He graduated from Mount Herman Prep School and the University of Minnesota. He married Nancy Mae Lumppio on February 16, 1957 in Cloquet, MN. He was a member of the American Stock Exchange before moving to Bradenton where he and Nancy lived for 35 years. While living in Waldwick and Allendale, NJ for 15 years he was involved in coaching little league baseball for many years and enjoyed watching his children play sports. He was active in the local Jaycee's Club as well as Kiwanis. Lee's true passion was designing and woodworking, anything from his grandson's playhouse, children's toys to beautiful pieces of furniture. He was also an avid Florida State fan. For many years Lee enjoyed boating off Anna Maria Island, FL and his many travels visiting friends and family across the US, Hawaii, Finland, Italy and many other destinations. His great joy was to watch his children grow up and to spend precious time with all of his grandchildren, watching them play sports and countless dance recitals. He was known affectionately as grandpa and papa and also loved his beloved grand dogs and cats.

Lee is preceded in death by his parents William and Adele (Muller) Hartmann and his brother Richard. Along with his wife of 56 years Nancy, he is survived by one son David of Jacksonville, three daughters and their spouses, Debbie and John O'Donoghue of Little Silver, NJ, Lori and Brian Wall of Priest River, ID, and Diane and Tim Lytle of Kissimmee, FL. His sister-in-law Remy of Honolulu, HI, brother and sister-in-law, Jim and Carol Lumppio of Eden Prairie, MN. Grandchildren John Patrick and wife Lucy, Brendan, Jeff, Drew, Emma, Faith, Sarah and Ethan. A Celebration of Life service will take place on November 9th at the First Christian Church of Kissimmee, FL.
Memorials may be given to Family & Children's Services of Monmouth County, 191 Bath Avenue, Long Branch, NJ 07740 and Vitas Hospice, 1200 N. Central Avenue, #200, Kissimmee, FL 34741.
The family of Lee wishes to extend our sincere thanks to Pastor Paul of Palma Sola Presbyterian Church, Heritage Park Rehab Center and his wonderful nurses, aides and therapists, Dr. Mandel Miller, Vitas Hospice for their compassion, Pastors James Book and Adam Robbins of First Christian Church for embracing our family and countless others who have been there for Lee these past 9 months.

Lee was a dear friend for us from the day we met him and Nancy in Bradenton ten years ago. We enjoyed his and Nancy's company in Brandenton but also in London and Italy during their travels. Lee's and Nancy's love and friendship has meant a lot for us, we miss Lee's humor and wise thoughts and advise about life. We have learnt a lot from him.

We now have beautiful memories of the time we spent with Lee and Nancy. He knows that life continues. He is there to wish beautiful things - to Nancy and to all his loved ones.

My dad was an amazing dad. He loved his family so much, he loved boating and FL, he loved wood working and loved life. This past year had been such a struggle for him from his cancer diagnosis to his leg amputation and everything in between. He fought his courageous battle with cancer and I am proud of all he did to try to get well. Before he passed I told him how much he taught my children about courage. He was very courageous in these past months. He showed my children how to persevere even when your circumstances seem impossible. I will really miss him dearly and will always love him.
Love,
HIs daughter Diane
