Leland Lewis Evans, age 87, was called into the immediate presence of our Lord on Friday, December 16, 2011 at Richland Memorial Hospital, Olney, IL.
Leland was born January 24, 1924 in Grayville, IL. to Amanda and Harry Evans. He married Luretta Brant, and two children were born to this union. Luretta preceded Leland in death in 1962.
On November 4, 1964, Leland and Lois Bennett were married at the Moravian Church in West Salem, IL. He worked for over 50 years as an oilfield pumper. Leland was a member of the Moravian Church and served on the Board of Trustees. He also was caretaker of the Moravian Cemetery for several years. He served on the Edwards County School Board. He was also elected to the Board of Directors at the First State Bank of West Salem on January 13, 1981, and served continuously to the present time. He had a passion for fishing; especially when it was enjoyed with his family. Leland deeply loved each member of his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, one sister Geneva, and a great grandson Jared.
He is survived by his wife Lois of West Salem, IL., one daughter Micki (Jay) Crome of Catlin, IL., five sons: Jim (LaVonna) Evans of Lincoln, NE, Phil (Marsha) Bennett of Swansea, IL., Chip (Lesa) Bennett of Glen Ellyn, IL., Ralph (Julie) Evans of Sapulpa, OK., David (Connie) Bennett of Bethlehem, PA, grandchildren: Gary (Jennifer), Amy (Nate), Heather (Danny), Megan, Hilary, Andy, Ryan, Lauren, Josh, Max and Julian, and 7 great-grandchildren: Jordan, Jayme, Kaitlyn, Madison, Kailee, Cooper and Jackson. He is also survived by a sister Virginia Jean Spitz of Forest Park, GA.
A Celebration of Life for Leland Evans will be held at 11 AM on Tuesday, December 20, 2011 at the Moravian Church in West Salem, IL. Private burial will follow at a later date.
Visitation will be held on Monday, December 19, 2011 from 5 to 7 PM at the Hauser Room at the Moravian Church, and also from 10 AM to service time on Tuesday.
Memorials may be made to the Moravian Church.
