Lenore Gerber passed away at Hopewell House hospice on July 25, 2014. A celebration of life will be held this Saturday at 2 PM at Young's Funeral Home 11831 SW Pacific Hwy. Tigard, OR 97223. She is survived by his sons Del, Spence, Wade and Burt and 6 grandchildren. Her husband of 59 years, Guy Gerber, preceded her in passing in March 2013.
Elsie Lenore Gerber was born to Walter and Elizabeth (Pfund) Erikson on April 5, 1928 in Portland, Oregon. She was raised in southeast Portland attending Arleta grade school and Franklin high school. After high school, Lenore worked at Meier and Frank and at Dan and Louis Oyster Bar to fund her education at Oregon State College (University) and Lewis and Clark College, earning a degree in Education. While at Lewis and Clark, she met Guy Gerber and married him on November 25, 1953.
Guy and Lenore started a family in the late 1950's eventually settling in Southwest Portland where they raised their four sons in the home that she lived in for over 50 years. After graduating from Lewis and Clark, Lenore taught at Buckman school in Portland. While her sons were young, she actively supported their education at Maplewood school as a volunteer as well as their extracurricular activities. After her children were out of school, Lenore rejoined the workforce as a sales associate at JC Penny Washington Square where she worked until retirement in the 1990's.
Later in life, she continued to enjoy time with her grandchildren as well as traveling with Guy. Always loved and forever remembered by those whose lives she touched. Remembrances can be made to Hopewell House Hospice or the National Stroke Association.
