HOWELL, Leola Mae Barnett, 93, went home to be with the Lord on November 27, 2016. She was born at Marfork, W. Va. on July 21, 1923. She was a long time member of the First Baptist Church in Whitesville, W. Va. She is preceded in death by her husband Roy Howell, her parents George and Fettie Barnett, her brother Billie Barnett, three sons Gary, Danny and one stillborn. She is survived by one son, Roger and his wife Sugar; two grandchildren, Roger (Lexie) and Christi (Andrew); and four great-grandchildren, Cody, Kiersten, Kaylie and Roger III. During World War II she worked at the Raleigh County local draft board for five years and the last year she was the clerk of the board. She also worked for the Federal Bake Shop in Charleston, W. Va. as a cake decorator. In later years, Mrs. Howell enjoyed crocheting and working with needle point, and enjoyed giving these things away to friends and family. Mrs. Howell will be laid to rest at Westhampton Memorial Park in Richmond, Va. beside her husband. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Hospice of the Piedmont, 675 Peter Jefferson Parkway Suite 300, Charlottesville, Va. 22911.
