Leola Poteat Williams, 97, of Drexel, North Carolina, died Sunday, August 31, 2014 in Lenoir. Mrs. Williams was born on July, 23, 1917 in Burke County, North Carolina to the late Will & Liza Poteat. She was married to her husband of 61 years, Harold Williams, Sr., who preceded her in death in 2001. Mrs. Williams was a homemaker and a member of Christ United Methodist Church. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, gardening, and baking cakes for various Church functions. Mrs. Williams enjoyed a life of simplicity. Leola Poteat Williams, 97, of Drexel, North Carolina, died Sunday, August 31, 2014 in Lenoir.
Mrs. Williams was born on July, 23, 1917 in Burke County, North Carolina to the late Will & Liza Poteat. She was married to her husband of 61 years, Harold Williams, Sr., who preceded her in death in 2001. Mrs. Williams was a homemaker and a member of Christ United Methodist Church. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, gardening, and baking cakes for various Church functions. Mrs. Williams enjoyed a life of simplicity. She would always attend the needs of others before providing for herself. Mrs. Williams was loved by her family and friends and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by two sons, Harold Williams, Jr. & wife Kaye and Virgil Williams & wife Cecile, all of Drexel; two daughters, Faye Draughn & husband Johnny of Greensboro and Louise Burkett & husband Gary of Morganton; four grandchildren; and four great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Lloyd Poteat and Ed Poteat; and a sister, Essie Mull.
A funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, September 4, 2014 at Christ United Methodist Church in Drexel with the Reverend Amy Freeze officiating. Burial will follow at Burke Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., prior to the service at the Church.
