Dr. Leon T. Biglete passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 7, 2017 with his family by his side in Fairfax, VA.
Leon was born on April 11, 1939 in San Pablo, Philippines to Trinidad and Andres Biglete. After graduating Medical School from the University of Santo Tomas, he completed his residency at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Fayetteville, NC. Leon served as a physician in the United States Air Force stationed at George Air Force Base, Victorville, CA.
Following his military service, he opened the Shamokin Diagnostics Center in Shamokin, PA. After 15 years in private practice, he transitioned to the U.S. Department of Justice Federal Bureau of Prisons as a physician at the U.S. Penitentiary, Lewisburg, PA. He then moved on to serving as medical director at the U.S. Penitentiary Allenwood until retiring full time in 2001. Leon was known to his colleagues and patients as a compassionate and caring physician with a great sense of humor. He was loved and respected by his family and friends for a life defined by hard work, compassion, and integrity.
In his free time, Leon enjoyed sports cars, auto racing, traveling, music, and photography.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Natividad, three children, Paul (Clara) Biglete of Fairfax, VA, Katherine Biglete of Fairfax, VA, and Melissa (Efrain) Reyes of Chantilly, VA; five grandchildren, Isabella, Jordan, Jacob, Gabriella, and Mya; one sister, Angelita Marcelo of Quezon City, Philippines. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Nydia Andres.
A visitation for Leon will be held at National Funeral Home, 7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church, Virginia 22042 on Thursday, December 14, 2017 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. John Neumann Church, 11900 Lawyers Road, Reston, Virginia 20191, on Friday, December 15, 2017 at 11:00 am. Leon will be laid to rest at National Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers donations can be made in Leon's name to The Parkinson's Foundation (www.parkinson.org) or to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research (www.michaeljfox.org).
