Obituary

Mr. Leon McGouirk, age 89, of East Point, Georgia passed away on Sunday, February 17, 2013. Leon was born on March 6, 1923 in Ben Hill, Georgia to the late Carrie Astin and Ruben McGouirk. Leon was a long time member of St. John's Catholic Church in Hapeville, Georgia. He served in the Marine Corp. during World War II in the South Pacific. He was a devoted husband and father. He loved God, his family and his country. He was loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed. Mr. Leon McGouirk, age 89, of East Point, Georgia passed away on Sunday, February 17, 2013. Leon was born on March 6, 1923 in Ben Hill, Georgia to the late Carrie Astin and Ruben McGouirk.

Leon was a long time member of St. John's Catholic Church in Hapeville, Georgia. He served in the Marine Corp. during World War II in the South Pacific. He was a devoted husband and father. He loved God, his family and his country. He was loved by his family and friends and will be greatly missed.

Leon is preceded in death by his wife, Marie, of over 50 years and his brother, Howard McGouirk.

He is survived by his sons, Richard McGouirk, and Lonnie McGouirk; his daughter, Tamara Drury and her husband, Kevin. Leon is survived by his special friend, Jean Conway. He is also survived by brother, Don McGouirk; and a sister, Betty Busby; three grandchildren, Rachel Clifton, Robyn Huggins, and Ryan McGouirk; and four great-grandchildren.

A visitation will be held Wednesday, February 20, 2013 from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. at Carmichael-Hemperley in Peachtree City. The funeral service will be held Thursday, February 21, 2013 at 10:30 in the Chapel of Carmichael-Hemperley Funeral Home in Peachtree City, Georgia.

Graveside services and burial will be at 2:00 p.m. at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens in College Park, Georgia.
