Colonel Leon B. Noory (age 100), beloved companion, brother, uncle & friend was born April 18, 1913, in Mardin, Turkey, to John Noory & Katoon (Tazbaz) Noory; went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 10, 2013, in Port Orange, Florida. Leon was a longtime resident of Virginia and Maryland before retiring to the Port Orange area. Colonel Leon B. Noory (age 100), beloved companion, brother, uncle & friend was born April 18, 1913, in Mardin, Turkey, to John Noory & Katoon (Tazbaz) Noory; went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, July 10, 2013, in Port Orange, Florida. Leon was a longtime resident of Virginia and Maryland before retiring to the Port Orange area. Originally from his hometown of Fitchburg, Massachusetts, Leon attended high school in Detroit, Michigan, and graduated in the Class of 1931. He enlisted in the Army Air Corps in April 1941 and graduated from the Army Air Corps cadet training program as an Air Observer. He was commissioned as a Lieutenant and served as an intelligence officer during World War II with service in Italy and the Allied Occupation Forces in Vienna, Austria. Upon returning to the United States, he completed his earlier studies at Georgetown University and graduated in 1951 from the School of Foreign Service. Leon loved and served his country for thirty-two years of military service and retired as a Colonel in the U.S. Air Force Reserve. Leon also was in residential real estate sales and the furniture business in the Washington, DC, metro area. Leon was devoted to his Catholic faith and was a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus. In 2005, he was bestowed the honor of induction into the Papal Order of St. Gregory the Great. Leon cared for the welfare of his family and friends. He touched many lives and will be deeply missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his beloved parents, John Noory & Katoon (Tazbaz) Noory; his loving brothers and sister Gabriel, Catherine (Noory) Joseph, and Samuel; and his dear nephew Gary Toukatly. Leon is survived by longtime family friend and loving companion Dorothy Parsons; his loving sister Rose (Noory) Toukatly of Utica, NY, and brother George of Alexandria, VA; and by many nephews, nieces, other family relatives and friends. On July 18th at 9:00 a.m., a viewing will be held, followed immediately by a funeral service at 10:00 a.m. at Holy Transfiguration Melkite Greek-Catholic Church, 8501 Lewinsville Road, McLean, VA. A Graveside Service will follow at Columbia Gardens Cemetery, 3411 Arlington Blvd Arlington, VA. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Holy Transfiguration Melkite Greek-Catholic Church, 8501 Lewinsville Road, McLean, VA 22102. Services have been entrusted to Murphy Funeral Home in Falls Church, VA a Dignity Memorial Provider, 1102 W. Broad Street, Falls Church, VA 22046.
