Leonard Frank Burgess, age 82, of Rogers, died March 12, 2012 at Circle of Life Hospice in Springdale. He was born February 10, 1930, in Malvern, Kansas, to John Frank Burgess and Audrey Rice Burgess. He joined the United State Marine Corps in 1946 and served his country in Korea and Vietnam. He participated in the battle at the Chosen Reservoir in Korea and was awarded the combat V for valor for carrying wounded under fire. He was a Mess Sergeant but carried a rifle like all of the other troops. After retirement he managed numerous restaurants including the Highway 99 Denny's located in Modesto, California. He was also the chef at Howard's Restaurant in Sonora, California. At the end of his working years he returned to his roots and retired to Arkansas. He was a devoted Christian and a member in good standing of Fellowship Bible Church, Rogers. He was an avid golfer and loved being on the golf course. He was preceded in death by his father, John Frank Burgess; mother, Audrey Rice Burgess; brothers Bob Burgess and Leroy Burgess. He is survived by his wife of 33 years, Daveine Burgess, Accounting Coordinator at Northwest Arkansas Community College; son, Leonard Frank Burgess, Jr. of Kailua Kona, Hawaii; daughters Caren Burgess and Kimberly Burgess of Riverbank, California; step-son Bryan Keith Hobbs of Fayetteville; step-daughters, Mary Wheeler of Merced, California, Carlene Wheeler of Escalon, California. He is also survived by sisters Pearl Nale of Pacoima, California, Wilma Dickard of Johnson; two grandchildren, eleven step-grandchildren and numerous step-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Service will be at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 17, 2012, at Fellowship Bible Church, 1051 Pleasant Grove Road, Rogers. Graveside services with military honors will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, March 19, 2012, at the National Cemetery in Fayetteville. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Circle of Life Hospice, 901 Jones Road, Springdale, AR 72762. Cremation arrangements are by Callison-Lough Funeral Home in downtown Rogers. www.callisonlough.com.
