Leonard Earl Holtzclaw, age 92, of Westminster, CO, passed away on July 7, 2012. Known by friends and professionally as Leonard, he was Earl to family. Born in Deer Trail, CO, on February 29, 1920, he was the son of the late Elisha Higby Holtzclaw and Sarah Elizabeth Reese. After graduating as Valedictorian from Byers High School, he worked in the Civilian Conservation Corp, and then enlisted in the Navy. As one of the top in his Navy Class, he became a Pilot in the Marine Corps, serving in both Japan and Korea. Known by friends and professionally as Leonard, he was Earl to family. Born in Deer Trail, CO, on February 29, 1920, he was the son of the late Elisha Higby Holtzclaw and Sarah Elizabeth Reese. After graduating as Valedictorian from Byers High School, he worked in the Civilian Conservation Corp, and then enlisted in the Navy. Obtaining his Masters degree from UNC, he became a math teacher in Jefferson County, teaching for many years at Belmont Jr. High. He was an active member in the Grange, from 1956 until his death. A long time resident of Westminster, he enjoyed attending City Council meetings. He also loved farming.
He is survived by his wife, Ruby Virginia Carlson, his daughter, Linnea Tam Nichols of Charlotte, NC ,a granddaughter, Kristin Andrea Nichols, DVM, of Austin, TX, a grandson, Gregory Thomas Nichols of Alexandria, VA, and several nieces, nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.
Services will be held on Monday, July 16, at Olinger Crown Hill, 29th and Wadsworth, Wheatridge, CO. Service at Noon, viewing at 11:00am, and burial at 1:30 pm at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Satging Area "B".
