LUSTGARTEN--Leonard S, MD. Physician and Author. New York City/ Westhampton, NY and North Palm Beach, FL. Len passed on June 2, 2014 of Parkinson's Disease related respiratory failure at his home in North Palm Beach. He was very happy until the end and died peacefully in his sleep. He is survived by his loving wife Lesley and his sons, Eric and Todd. At 19 years of age, Len was a very proud graduate of Harvard University's class of 1948. He went on to Albany Medical School. Len Lustgarten was a renowned Doctor of Internal Medicine in Manhattan for over 40 years with legions of adoring patients and friends. His one man internal medical practice was legendary. Len became Chief Resident of Lenox Hill Hospital in 1960. He went on to be widely recognized by his peers. His patients included many from the worlds of art, society, finance and, of course, some far more interesting characters. Len was named "Best Doctor" by New York Magazine during the 1990's in his area of specialty for consecutive years. He is credited for having started the practices and careers of many of todays top physicians in their respective fields. He was one of the first physicians to encounter AIDS and fought to educate the public as to its truths and fallacies. As the editor of The Medical Tribune and the Medical Director of several large pharmaceutical advertising agencies, he was at the forefront of a changing era. Dr. Lustgarten also taught Evolutionary Biology at Palm Beach Community College in Florida later in life. Len Lustgarten's Novel "EUNUCH" received overwhelming praise when it was released in 2008/ 2009 and was hailed as a groundbreaking fictional epic. It has since been recognized as an exceptional work of unique proportions, exploring previously uncharted territory. It is the author's message to the world and the embodiment of all that he believed and experienced in life. Most importantly, it is his gift to the future. It is his tribute to Darwin. As per Len's wishes, there will no funeral or services. However, there will be a party later this Summer so that we may all hoist a glass and laugh as we remember him and tell the stories. He would have felt right at home with all of you whom he loved. Our father embodied the Hippocratic Oath "First Do No Harm". That is his legacy. In lieu of flowers or gifts, charitable contributions may be made to the following Charities: The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research. The Lustgarten Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer and The Democratic National Committee. Please go to "EUNUCH NOVEL" at Facebook.com. All information, condolences, comments and donation details may be found there.
