Leonora McKeever Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 9, 2017.

Leonora (Hermann) McKeever

February 22, 1920 – August 8, 2017

Resident of Medford, Oregon

Formerly of San Jose, California

Lee McKeever passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday morning, August 8, 2017, at the age of 97. She had been living at the Rogue Valley Manor for the past 29 years. Her husband Al preceded her in death in 1996. She enjoyed her life at the Manor where she played golf, tennis, water volleyball, and lawn bowling. Lee also sewed costumes for the Shakespeare Festival, in Ashland, Oregon, as well as knitting and crocheting. For many years she was the editor of the Manor Newspaper and she always enjoyed socializing with many friends that lived there as well as family members that came to visit.

As a young woman, Lee was working as a secretary, and immediately quit her job to join the Marines when she heard that the military was accepting women. It was during her service in the Marines that she met and married her husband of 53 years, Al McKeever. Lee and Al McKeever raised three children in San Jose, California. Linda (Greg) Johnson, Patti (Robin) Guilford, and Ken (Cathy) McKeever. They also have six grandchildren; Kevin Vasconcellos, Devon (Steve) Bijansky, T. J. (Jessica) Mahony, Matt (Sara) Mahony, Melissa (Chris) Barrow, and Molly McKeever, and 5 great-grandchildren as well. Lee worked at Bergman’s in Willow Glen while her children were young, and after that she worked at both Camden and Leigh High Schools, in San Jose, CA. Before moving to the Manor in Medford, Oregon, Lee and Al enjoyed living at Capitola Beach for 15 years.

Lee’s children would like to take this opportunity to thank the nursing staff at Rogue Valley Manor in Medford, Oregon for taking such good care of her these past few years, and for being so compassionate with her as her Alzheimer’s needs increased. You were able to keep her ever present smile on her face and for that we will always be grateful.

Sincere condolences from the members of the Women Marines Association. If the Army and the Navy ever looked on Heaven's Scenes, they will find the streets are guarded by United States Marines. (3rd stanza of the Marines Hymn). Take comfort in knowing your beloved Marine has left this life to take up her rightful place in Heaven's detachment.
