Les Charles Armstrong tragically passed away on January 29, 2012 from a drowning accident. He will be remembered for his humor, his big heart and his loyalty to his family.
Leslie was born on August 31, 1957 in Johnstown, Pennsylvania to parents Doreen and Gerald Armstrong. He was raised in Florida and developed his love for fishing and sunshine during his childhood there. Les attending Brandon High School and started his adult life in the Florida area.
During a picnic at a state park he had a life changing moment when he met Gloria Diane Allen. That contact developed into a friendship and then a relationship over time. They were married in 1979. In 1992 they moved to Portland, Oregon and settled with their family in the Northwest.
Les work as a painter and sandblaster for over 32 years and was especially proud of the work he did on Navy ships. He traveled around the United States for his job and always valued the experience that his work gave him.
The family will cherish the trips to the beach and the fishing trips they would go on with Les. His children recall that even as young ones they were encouraged to participate and Les would actively help them learn new skills. Les was also a jokester and constantly was doing something to make someone smile.
Later in his life Les became more spiritual. During times when he struggled with various issues because of his addictions, he always was able to turn to his faith and his family. Les always found strength through nature and would often times go to the river pray.
Les was a man of a strong work ethic and in his own way did his best to always put his family first. His memory will be cherished by his wife, Gloria Diane, mother Doreen and sister Kris Frost both of California. A brother, Keith Armstrong of WinterHaven,; his children, Amanda Armstrong, Alicia Horner and husband Jesse, and son Jimmy and wife Jenny. Seven Grandchildren: Miah Middlebrook, Terrae Moore, Ivantrae Moore, River Horner, Jack Lewis, Shawnee Lewis and Baby Rayana. Les will also be missed by the many family and friends who touched his life.
