Lesley Horton Carter, born 12/7/1915, passed away on 9/26/13.
His parents, John and Martha Carter, his wife, Dolly, his 15 siblings, and their spouses preceded him in death. He is survived by daughter, Libby Jennings, his adopted daughters, Lynn Swafford, Rosemary Arnold, Brenda Cox, Jane Chandler, and Josephine Nyasimi; Grandchildren, Jason and Sherry Jennings, and Great Granddaughter, Annsley Carter Jennings. He also leaves behind beloved nieces and nephews, and their children and grandchildren.
Mr. Carter was an employee of Dixie Yarns for 42 plus years, and prior to that, was in the Army. He served during World War II.
He was a long time member of Brooks Memorial Methodist Church, but had to stop attending due to a severe hearing problem.
A quiet unassuming man, Mr. Carter lived his life just that way---never imposing or demanding, and never critical of anyone. He had a wonderful, refreshing sense of humor, never realizing how witty and funny he was. He will be greatly missed by the people who loved him, and never forgotten.
The family wishes to thank Josephine and Ken Nyasimi, and the staff at the Senior Saints Group Home where Mr. Carter resided for the last eighteen months of his life. Also, thanks to Hospice of Chattanooga and the staff that attended him. All attended him with love, concern and respect. Please know how special you all are.
A memorial is being initiated for the Senior Saints Group Home. Please feel to donate to the Lesley Horton Carter Memorial Fund, C/O Josephine Nyasimi, 704 Belvoir Ave., Chattanooga, 37412-2604.
There will not be a service open to the public nor visitation. A private memorial service will be held at a later date for close family, only.
Arrangements are by the North Chapel of Chattanooga Funeral Home, Crematory and Florist, 5401 Highway 153, Hixson, Tennessee 37343.

The Chastains
Les was one of the finest men that anyone could ever meet, the kind of man anyone would love to have had as a neighbor. As matter of fact the Chastain family will miss him dearly because we was his neighbor and we were blessed to have lived next to such a kind man. We would also like to honor him for his service to our country. They don't make them like Les anymore. Rest in peace sweet neighbor.

Uncle Lesley will always be remembered with love. He always spent time with us as children. He was so sweet and kind. I loved him and know he is celebrating in Heaven with all his brothers and sisters and his parents!
