Lewis Clyde Bales, age 79, of Cloverdale, passed away on Saturday, October 27, 2012.
Born April 21, 1933 in Washington Township of Putnam Co, IN, he was the son of Lewis A. and Sylvia Blanche (Akins) Bales and was a graduate of Roachdale High School "class of 1951". He married Kathleen Williams Bales on December 11, 1953 and she survives.
Lewis had served in the United States Navy, serving from 1951-1953 during the Korean War.
He retired on January 31, 1985 from Allison's Turbine in Indianapolis after 30yrs, where he worked as a Journey sheet metal and tinsmith. He was a life member of the USS Coral Sea CVA-43 Assn.; V.F.W. and American Legion of Cloverdale.
Survivors include his wife; children, Lewis G. Bales Jr. of Cloverdale, James M. (Cathleen) Bales of Brazil, and Tina L. (Marty) McIntyre of Lexington, KY.; a sister, Neva Lokos of Chicago, IL; half sister, Louise (Wilford) Harmless of Avon; five grandchildren, Jennifer Kaelber, Jaime Bales, Jeremy (Charis) Bales, Crystal Taylor, and Katrina Wheeler; 12 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and three sisters, Eleanor Lokos, Mary Elizabeth "Betty" Darnell; and Georgia Anna Carrier.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm on Thursday, November 1, 2012 at the Hopkins-Rector Funeral Home with Chaplain Ron Turner officiating. Interment with military honors will follow at the Cloverdale Cemetery, Cloverdale, IN.
Friends may call at the funeral home from 12:00 noon until time of service on Thursday.
Memorial contributions may be made in memory to the Leukemia Assn. or St. Jude's Children Hospital in Memphis, TN.
