Lilia Casanova Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 17, 2017.

Lilia G. Casanova, beloved wife, sister, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother entered rest on May 16, 2017 as she graciously accepted her invitation to be with our Lord. She was born in La Hacienda de San Pedro, General Teran, Nuevo Leon, Mexico on March 3, 1931. She came to San Antonio, Texas with her family in 1953. It was because of her talent with numbers that she quickly found employment as a payroll clerk at a local manufacturing company. The last eight years of her career were at San Antonio Federal Credit Union in Bookkeeping and Finance departments before retiring on May 21, 1993. Lilia was very active in church activities at St. Luke's Catholic parish and was an excellent orator as a Lector. She was a member of the St. Luke's Guadalupanos Society for many years where she participated in their various fundraising projects to help Habitat for Humanity and to provide care packages for military troops overseas. She was especially proud to be involved in the annual Guadalupanos Spaghetti Dinner to raise funds for local charities, and of her contribution to the Bereavement Ministry. Lilia had a passion for reading, gardening and birdwatching, and enjoyed cooking. She also liked traveling, especially to California and England to visit family. Our much-loved Lilia will be remembered for her devotion to family and as a caregiver to her husband of 62 years who died in 2016. Her home is where everyone always gathered because of her charisma and welcoming hugs and her delicious meals made with love. Lilia will be greatly missed by all her family and many close friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband Mike Casanova, daughter Rosalinda Casanova; parents Miguel and Dionicia Garza, brothers Pablo (wife Pura), Angel and Pedro Garza, sisters Antonia Perez (husband Antonio) and Maria Garza; brothers in law Carlos Garcia and Homero Perez. She is survived by her children Yolanda Patti (husband Mathew), Mike (wife Denise); grandsons Daniel Chapa (wife Michelle) and Jarrod Chapa; great-grandchildren Olivia, Michael, Isabella, Aviana, Roman and Violet; brothers Miguel (wife Carolina), Ramiro (wife Gloria); sisters Juanita Garza, Irma Perez, Maria Elva Garcia; also, many nephews and nieces who loved her very much. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Luke's Catholic Church. Viewing will be held on Tuesday, May 30, 2017 from 6 to 9 pm, Rosary at 7 pm, Sunset Northwest Home Chapel, 6321 Bandera Rd. Funeral Mass will be celebrated on May 31, 2017, 10 am at St. Luke's Catholic Church, 4603 Manitou Dr. Funeral procession will follow to Ft. Sam Houston for Interment at 11:30 am.

We were sad to hear of Mrs. Casanova's passing but feel comforted that she will join her husband and daughter Linda in the Lord's kingdom. Linda was my best friend and I enjoyed many happy times at the warm and welcoming Casanova home. Our thoughts and prayers for peace and comfort are with your family.

We are so sorry for Lilia's passing. We felt honored to have gotten to know her while she would visit Mike at St Francis Nursing Home. She will be truly missed, but have comfort knowing that she and Mike are together having the time of their life.
