Lillian was born February 9, 1928 near Knox City in Haskell County to Burley Burton "B.B." and Joyce Irene (McWhorter) Hobbs. June 8, 1946 she married Sam Montgomery in Wichita Falls and together they raised three children. She and Sam led a lively life of music and family. Lillian sang and played the piano in their country music band, "Sam Montgomery and the Melodiers". They had a radio show as well as a local TV show. At the age of 16, Lillian and her sister Bernice traveled to Dallas and performed on the "Big D Jamboree". Lillian had even made a record, but her greatest contribution was her song writing. At home her life was all about her children and grandchildren. She was a wonderful cook with other family members coming to her to learn her secrets. And holidays at Lillian's house was always a huge spread of everything wonderful.
Mrs. Montgomery is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, Sam Montgomery in 2002; her parents, B.B. and Joyce Hobbs; sister, Gladys Joyner; and two brothers, J.B. and Murl Hobbs.
Survivors include her devoted children and spouses, Sammy Montgomery of Wichita Falls; Sharon and Steve VanAllen of Iowa Park; Troy and Dana Montgomery of Springtown, TX; four sisters, Bernice Crain of San Antonio, TX; Juanita Spears, Cherry Barrett both of Wichita Falls; Bonnie Dahl of Anchorage, AK; brother and wife, Barney and Garnita Hobbs of Byers; four grandchildren, Janis Berryman, Kevin Rodgers, Crystal Colley, Heather Collins; 8 great-grandchildren with one more she was looking forward to; and five great-great-grandchildren also with one more she was looking forward to.
Visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 p.m. Thursday, October 17, 2013 at Hampton Vaughan Funeral Home.
