Obituary

Linal H. "Buddy" Reese Sr., 83, of Alma passed away Friday, March 28, 2014. He was born June 28, 1930 in Mars Hill, Maine to the late Beulah and Andrew Nelson. He was a decorated Korean War Veteran who served with the 981st Field Artillery and 503rd Parachute Infantry Regiment where he was awarded the Purple Heart. After the war, he settled in Arkansas and worked in construction, was a member of the local labor union, and served as Secretary/Treasurer of the AFL/CIO for the State of Arkansas. Linal H. "Buddy" Reese Sr., 83, of Alma passed away Friday, March 28, 2014. He was born June 28, 1930 in Mars Hill, Maine to the late Beulah and Andrew Nelson. He was a decorated Korean War Veteran who served with the 981st Field Artillery and 503rd Parachute Infantry Regiment where he was awarded the Purple Heart. After the war, he settled in Arkansas and worked in construction, was a member of the local labor union, and served as Secretary/Treasurer of the AFL/CIO for the State of Arkansas. In his youth, Bud was a professional wrestler/boxer and raced horses with his Dad in New England. In addition to his parents, Buddy was preceded in death by a grandson, Kevin Ray Reese.

He is survived by his bride of 62 years, Barbara Joan of Alma; four children, Linal Reese, Jr. and wife Rubett of Lebanon, Missouri, Lanny Reese of Mountainburg, Lance Reese and wife Cathy of Van Buren, and Amy Catterton and husband Michael of Columbus, Georgia; thirteen grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral service will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Chapel with interment to follow at the Fort Smith National Cemetery with Military Honors, under the direction of Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home of Van Buren.

Pallbearers will be Dylan Reese, Kyle Reese, James Reese, Jason Petree, Tristan Catterton, and Michael Catterton.

The family will visit with friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 1, 2014 at Edwards Van-Alma Funeral Home, 4100 Alma Highway, Van Buren, AR.
