Linda Martin Barker passed from this life on Friday, September 3, 2010 at her home in Copperas Cove.
She was born in Sulphur Bluff, Texas to Charlie and Avo Martin on October 10, 1929.
Mrs. Barker was a graduate of Sulphur Bluff High School and Texas A&M Commerce where she received her bachelor's and master's degrees in education. She taught elementary school in Moody and Copperas Cove, Texas for 33 years. Mrs. Barker spent many a long evening and weekends grading paper and planning lessons to ensure that her students learned what they needed to know to make them ready for life's challenges.
She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Copperas Cove.
She was preceded in death by her sisters, Charline McGlathery and Ina Sue Holcomb as well as her beloved son, Joel Blaine Barker.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, George Edward Barker whom she married on June 30, 1949. She is also survived by her precious daughter, Marilinda Barker of Longview, Texas and a grandson, Joshua Barker.
Mrs. Barker saw beauty everywhere she looked; she collected many small treasures that were overlooked by others. She had a keen eye for a bargain and enjoyed many a hour mining the local thrift stores for the beautiful things she found, she pleased herself and others and shared her worldly treasures with those who were in need in her community.
During her long career as an educator, Mrs. Barker lived her belief that " A teacher affects eternity; she can never tell where her influence stops." As a teacher, Mrs. Linda Barker held an honored place in her community. What she gave of herself goes on in the lives of her family, her friends, and her students.
The Barker family will receive guests for a time of visitation from 6-8 p.m. Monday, September 6, 2010 at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Copperas Cove. Graveside services will 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen.
In place of usual remembrances the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Copperas Cove Education Foundation, P.O. Box 943, Copperas Cove, Texas 76522 to assist in furthering the education of our youth.
Words of comfort may be shared with the family at www.crawfordbowerscopperascove.com.
Services have been entrusted to the care of Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Copperas Cove.

"Bro George I send my love and sympathy on your lose. May God be with you in this time and keep you safe in his loving arms. Bro Harris."
