Linton LeCompte, 74, passed away on March 11, 2017 at his residence with his family by his side.
He loved shooting the bull with his buddies and having coffee with them to reminisce. He enjoyed working at what is now Sasol for many years, where he was the Superintendent of the Paraffin Unit. Linton loved being able to help up and coming young people get employment, and even in his later years would still counsel with them for any questions they may have. He was responsible for starting the Process Technology Department at Sowela, and during this time period he did some consultation work overseas in Saudi Arabia and Malaysia. He then returned home where he would become the P Tech Department Head. He was also a proud Veteran in the Vietnam War where he served in the United States Army.
He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Mary LeCompte; daughters, Kimberly LeCompte of Charlotte, NC., Kellie Gaines and husband Chris of Franklin, TN.; brother, Adam LeCompte, Jr. and wife Audrey of Crosby, TX.; sister, Marcella Tezeno of Long Beach, CA.; along with three grandchildren, Kyle LeCompte of Lake Charles, Braylen Gaines, and Riley Gaines, both of Franklin, TN.
Linton is preceded in death by his parents, Adam and Ora LeCompte; brothers, Delton LeCompte, Sr., Welton LeCompte; and sister, Gloria Johnson.

Linton was a great mentor and coach for me as a young engineer. He would patiently explain the reasoning behind his decisions, whether they were technical, operating or personnel issues. He was willing to take me under his wing, let me make some mistakes and learn. Most of what I consider to be my best leadership qualities I learned from watching Linton and learning from him. My most sincere sympathy to the family as a great man is now in heaven. Brenda Myers Donnelly

To the family and loved ones of Mr. Lecompte. I was part of the 2nd graduating Ptec class at Sowela back in 2002. Back then the program was so new that Mr. Lecompte probably taught 60% of the classes if not more. He was a joy to be around and always had a smile. I remember well him talking joyfully about time with his grandson and sports. Now that my own kids are in school at St. Margaret's, I smile when I look at the championship signs and see Mr. Lecompte' name. My last class at Sowela was an internship class where we ran the mock plants that they have. At the end of the class I was given my final grade and it was a B. I said Mr. Lecompte a B really? After a little conversation, he said are you going to make me proud out there Nash? I said yes sir and I got my A well after 14 years and 2 promotions at Phillips 66 (Conoco) I hope that I have. He was a great teacher, mentor, and friend and I only wish I would have made more time to visit after graduation. Eternal rest grant to Mr. Lecompte oh Lord, and may your perpetual light shine upon him.

My condolences to Mary and the LeCompte family. I worked with Linton at Vista (now Sasol) for many years. We occasionally talked while he was at Sowela - Linton was usually seeking input on better ways to train his students (always his first priority). I always enjoyed his friendliness and larger than life persona. Rest in peace "Padner".

I was very fortunate to have been in the early stages of Sowela, where Mr. Linton was the Dept. Head. Being one of the oldest students there, at 42, we shared a great friendship. Mr. Linton showed great interest in his students, and had a close relationship with them all. He did a great job for us, and because of him and his insight, I am and have been at Citgo since I graduated. He was a true leader, and a great man.
