Lionel "Tito" Hinojos returned to his heavenly home on November 17, 2017 at the age of 77 after a year-long battle with cancer. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him through his struggle and ultimately gave him peace. His life began in Marfa, Texas on December 8, 1939 and moved to Odessa in 1946 with his mom, Josefa Hinojos and his step-dad, Ramon Hinojos. Tito would meet the love of his life in the mid-1950's, Modesta Navarette, marry, and spend the next 61 years together.
As a master cabinet maker, he started Superior Cabinets 45 years ago and established a strong business that is still flourishing today with his eldest son, Leo, at the helm. Tito focused on quality and customer service that resulted in fiercely loyal customers, many of whom became friends of the family.
As a devout Catholic he served in the Knights of Columbus and has served as a Parish Council President at Holy Redeemer. He was tireless in his support of the church and strong as steel in his convictions.
Today you can enjoy his skills as a master cabinet maker in churches that include the Holy Redeemer, Saint Mary's, Saint Elizabeth Ann Seton, Saint Stephen's, Saint Agnes, and Saint Barnabas Episcopal Church, truly a result of his dedication to our Lord. Along with his church service, Tito was very active in the business community serving on various boards and working closely with the Odessa Chamber of Commerce, the Mexican American Scholarship Committee, and the Pan American Golf Association. His passion for life was contagious, echoed by his love to travel, dance, golf, and play cards with his friends and family. The swagger in his dance was undeniable and carried over to all his competitive activities. Tito broke through so many barriers throughout his life resulting in a rock-solid foundation for his children to succeed and flourish, while keeping true to his own dreams to travel the world and celebrate life with his beloved wife and his closest friends and family.
Tito is survived by his wife Modesta; children Lionel Hinojos, Jr. and wife Mary Margaret, of Odessa; Armando Hinojos and wife Patricia, of Plano; Alfredo Hinojos and wife Kelly of Pittsburgh, PA; and Sissy Hinojos of Odessa; grandchildren, Miranda Hinojos, Lionel Hinojos, III, Britannia Phillips, Alicia Hinojos, Stephan Hinojos, and Indigo Hinojos, and a great grandchild, Maiya Morgan. Along with his immediate family, Tito has surviving siblings, Victoria Reyes and husband Carlos, Yolanda Gomez and husband Roberto, Ray Hinojos and wife Dora, Janie Galindo and husband Augustine, Velma Minjarez and husband Frank, many loving nieces and nephews, and multiple generations that cherished their time with him on earth. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Gilbert Molina, and sister Viola Jimenez.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to West Texas Gifts of Hope for cancer patients.
The family would like to express their gratitude to family, friends, Dr. Khandwal, Dr. Kaczor, and the staff at Texas Oncology, Dr. Santiago Geraldo, Dr. Abdul Khadir, the providers at Star Hospice, and Nurses Unlimited. Their tireless efforts and support coupled with Tito's faith and courage allowed us to cherish and spend more time with him than expected.

My thoughts and prayers are with you. Tito was a very caring person and I know he loved his family dearly. I met Tito and Leo in 1977 when we worked down the street from each other. Even though we haven't seen each other in many years, I still treasure our friendship from back then. Tito, RIP my friend. You will be missed.
