Lisa Mary Laing
May 19, 1970 - September 29, 2016
Lisa Laing passed away after a brief illness on September 29 in her home, surrounded by family and friends. Lisa was born in Pittsburgh, PA, and lived there until 1984, when she and her family moved to San Diego. She attended Standley Jr. High and University City High. After graduation from high school, Lisa and her mother, Anita Laing, traveled to Europe. There, she met her future husband, Roberto Fey, from the Province of Torino in Italy. Roberto was working in Geneva, Switzerland, and Lisa decided to attend Webster University's Geneva Campus.
In 1994, Roberto found a job in San Diego, and the two moved to San Diego, where Lisa finished college with a bachelor's degree in marketing. She and Roberto married in 1995 and welcomed their daughter, Rachela Fey, into the family in 1997. The family lived in North Park and then in Point Loma.
In her 30s, Lisa learned to fire dance with flaming balls and hoops, and became an expert at crafting the implements dancers use for this art. She performed countless times at events and for friends and family, and taught many the art of dancing with fire.
Lisa is survived by her father, William Laing; husband Roberto; daughter Rachela; sisters Laura Smith of Vancouver, WA, and Rachel Laing of San Diego. She also leaves behind two nieces, Anita and Georgia, and nephew Benjamin. A special acknowledgment is also due to Lisa's closest friend, Catrina Harrington, who provided constant care for her in the final months of her life.
She was predeceased by her mother, Anita Laing, all four of her grandparents, and her cousin, Shelby Giles; it gives the family great comfort to imagine them together now.
There will be a visitation for family and friends to celebrate Lisa's life at Beardsley-Mitchell Funeral home in Ocean Beach on October 21 from 5-8 p.m. Lisa's close friends will hold a campout memorial service for her in Bonsall following the visitation.
Arrangements under the direction of Beardsley-Mitchell Funeral Home, San Diego, CA.
