Lois Aileen Hughes, 65, of Newton, NC, died Friday, August 1, 2014 at Catawba Valley Medical Center in Hickory, NC. Lois was born January 13, 1949, in Buchanan, Virginia. Lois retired from Carolina Specialty Fabrics. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, traveling to the beach and the mountains, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Lois was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jerry Clerence Thomas; her father, Raymond Ellis Keen; and granddaughter, Abby Kanupp. She is survived by her sons, Jerry Clerence Thomas, Jr. and wife, Tamara, of Sherrills Ford, and Eric Bradley Thomas and husband, Phillip Black, of...
Lois Aileen Hughes, 65, of Newton, NC, died Friday, August 1, 2014 at Catawba Valley Medical Center in Hickory, NC.

Lois was born January 13, 1949, in Buchanan, Virginia. Lois retired from Carolina Specialty Fabrics. She enjoyed cooking, sewing, traveling to the beach and the mountains, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Lois was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Jerry Clerence Thomas; her father, Raymond Ellis Keen; and granddaughter, Abby Kanupp.

She is survived by her sons, Jerry Clerence Thomas, Jr. and wife, Tamara, of Sherrills Ford, and Eric Bradley Thomas and husband, Phillip Black, of Rossville, Illinois; daughters, Virginia Catherine Dyson and husband, Michael, of Taylorsville, and Clara Thomas Kanupp and husband, Jeff, of Conover; sisters, Shirley K. Hurt, and Gaylene K. Van Dyke, both of Big Branch, Virginia; and grandchildren, Lisa Baxter, Joshua Thomas, Zander Dyson, and Kayla Kanupp.

The family will receive friends Saturday, August 9, 2014, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Willis-Reynolds Funeral Home & Crematory in Newton, NC.

A private committal service for family will be held at Conover City Cemetery with Reverend Paul Kanupp officiating.
