Lois G. Roberson – died February 1, 2011 at a local hospital surrounded by her family. Mrs. Roberson was born August 21, 1925 in Georgiana, AL to George Preston Garrett, Sr. and Eula Mariah Garrett. Mrs. Roberson, also known as "Granny," moved to Mobile in 1944 and graduated from Murphy High School the same year. She was a wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a member of St. John's United Methodist Church for many years. Mom will be best remembered for her gentle, kind spirit and unwavering faith in God. She was generous with her love and found happiness in the simplest things of life. She never spoke ill of anyone, and though the last year brought many challenges, Mom never complained. She was gracious and kind to everyone she met. Mom's family meant everything to her, and she took great care to see that they were taken care of. She loved to cook, so visitors seldom left unfed or empty handed. Mom was a gifted seamstress, and she lovingly crocheted blankets for all of her family, even for generations to come. Someone once said of her mother that children and flowers couldn't help but bloom in her presence, and these words are true for Mom as well. It was important to her that she and we, in her words, "make memories." And that Mom did. We will all cherish beyond words the time we had with her. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Merrill Edward Roberson; her parents; her brothers, George P. Garrett, Jr. and William A. Garrett; and great-grandson, Travis Edward Loper, Jr. She is survived by her three daughters, Merilyn Patton, Diane Roberson-Hill (Chris), and Kay R. Johnson (Robert); grandchildren, Troy Loper, Travis Loper (Tammy), Matthew Johnson, Kathryn Jones (Hank), and Vicki Whitfield; great-grandchildren, Megan Booker, Trevor Loper, Taylor Loper, Rollins Jones, and Carter Whitfield; great, great-grandchildren, JJ Booker and Mia Booker; sister, Vera King; sister-in-law, Flo Garrett; and many nieces and nephews. The family would like to express their gratitude to TLC Home Health Care, especially Jan and LaTanya, for their support to all of us this past year. Funeral services will be held from the chapel of
Radney Funeral Home on Dauphin Street on Saturday, February 5, 2011, at 2 p.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 12 noon until the service hour. Interment will be in Mobile Memorial Gardens. Condolences may be offered at www.radneyfuneralhome-mobile.com. Arrangements by Radney Funeral Home, 3155 Dauphin Street, Mobile, Alabama 36606.
