Lola Pascua Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 31, 2015.

Lola Mildred Laughlin was born March 31, 1927 to William and Argle Laughlin in Maryville Missouri. She was the oldest of six siblings, which include Brother William now deceased, Sister Bettee, Brother Ernie, Brother Don, Sister Olive, also deceased and Sister Joan. Lola and her siblings grew up during the great depression when times were tough on families. William and Argle moved their family to the Vanport area of Portland Oregon in 1944.

Once in Oregon Lola worked as a welder in the shipyards and a clerk at Owl Drugstores. Looking for some new adventures and excitement, Lola picked up and moved to San Francisco California in the late 1940's. Missing her family, she sent for her sister; Bettee to join her and her sister Joan a short time later. It was in San Francisco that she later met and married her husband of 59 years; Benjamin Pascua. They were married in October of 1952.

In July of 1953, Lola and Benjamin's first born child; Curtis was born and shortly afterwards, they moved to Tualatin Oregon. In December of 1955 they welcomed the birth of their second son; Rodney. Their third son; Ricky came in April of 1959. Their fourth son; Jaime came in July of 1960 and their fifth and last son; Shelle came in January 1962.

Raising five boys was not an easy task and there were many occasions where Lola would charge into Sherwood to track down one or two of her boys or meet up with the local Police Chief; Stan Stanislowski for a little help tracking or stop and discuss concerns with a local school principal or two. The Pascua home always had room for a few more and there were many days and nights that her nephew; Tommy and one or two of the local neighborhood boys like Larry Floyd and Brian Clark would be hiding out amongst her own boys.

Lola was well known as the Matriarch and protector of her family. She proudly took on this role not only for her own children, but for her siblings and her grandchildren as well. Her family recognized her in this role and she was always there whenever you needed her. Lola was a great friend to many and there wasn't anything she wouldn't do for someone in need. When friends were sick, she'd bring over some homemade soup and visit with them at any hour of the day.

Lola enjoyed many hobbies, like Ceramics, Painting, Sewing, Gardening and particularly shopping! She was a famed shopper always looking for that great deal. Once Lola found a great bargain she wouldn't buy just one or two, she would buy the whole lot and everyone would get a new pan, towels, washcloths, Christmas ornament or whatever the deal of the moment was. You might say that there was no one in the neighborhood that went without underwear or socks!

Lola also enjoyed driving many places both near and far. On many occasions, she would wrangle someone to join her in that adventure she had in mind and once captured for the car ride, you were her hostage until she decided to bring you back. Some of the best trips were heading up to Hood River to pick apples or stopping in Woodburn to get eggs.

Holidays were a particular special event at the Pascua home. There was never a shortage of fun times, great family dinners and conversation that blessed this home. Christmas was a particularly favorite holiday of Lola's. When the boys were little, she always had someone around to play Santa Claus and she always had a stock pile of extra gifts around so that any unexpected visitor never left without a gift in hand.

In 1976; Benjamin and Lola took their family to Hawaii for the first time for a family reunion. There they would visit with family and explore the islands. This was a very special family trip and often today, you can still hear them recall fond memories of this time.

There were always many animals including pony's, peacocks, ducks, dogs, cats, birds and even a goat at the Pascua farm and in their retirement years; Lola and Ben enjoyed raising Koi in their backyard pond.

Lola's five sons and their wives have blessed her with 12 grandchildren and as of today; 6 great-grandchildren. Lola loved all of her grandchildren. There are so many fond memories which include the endless supply of candy and gum that grandma always kept at the end of her bed, the many pairs of pajama's she sewed for them and all of the fun shopping trips.

Once in their mid 80's, health issues began to plague both Lola and Ben and in December of 2012 they moved from their beloved home in Tualatin to the Springs in Sherwood for some more attentive care. Unfortunately, after only a little over a month of residing at the Springs, Ben's health deteriorated to the time of his passing; January 8th 2012. Lola moved from the assisted living portion of The Springs to the memory care section later in 2012. She was blessed with some terrific caretakers who took special interest in Lola and helped make her time there as pleasant and comfortable as they could and the family is forever grateful to them.

The love and support of her entire family; has meant the world to Lola and she would not have it any other way. Often times, there has been many uplifting compliments made with regard to this incredibly close Pascua family and we all take great pride in that.

Lola was loved and respected by many who knew her and she will be missed very deeply by all.

Grandma,
I'm leaving the Springs now. Things have gotten too tough without you there. Wish I could talk to you. But I know you're watching over me. You touched many lives when being there and I know that you will forever be in people's memories. I'm beginning a new start at Kohls; if you were here I know you'd be checking out the sales. But please know I miss you so much and love you with all my heart.
Rest in Paradise ❤

There has been no one who touched my heart and soul like she did.. She was a precious soul that I am extremely thankful I got the chance to know and have in my life even if it was not very long. I cried when I thought of her when I couldnt see her. I loved her like family as if she was my own grandmother and she treated me the same.. I will never forget her she is forever in my heart and soul.. R.I.P. Lola.. I love you and cant wait till we meet again...
My deepest sympathy goes out to you all. May God give you grace during this time of pain...

I just loved my aunt Lola ,I saw her long fingernails as a kid and thought , my aunt is awesome , her energetic personality ,I always loved going to my aunt lolas seeing all my cousins , the first time I had goats milk was at aunt Lola's house , man it was good , that's the feeling you got when you go to see Lola , warm and welcoming , I'd go on the weekends stay the night , she taught me how to crochet , I made two blankets, with her help she took me to ceramic classes in the basement of her friends house , sometimes we'd go have breakfast , hit the big K then go see Lotty and Don , i was so excited Lola took me to Hawaii for 2 weeks ,we stayed with Rodney one week , then went kuai for a week ,it was a trip of a lifetime , from then on I knew I wanted to travel the world , Lola cared about everyone who walked through her door , you never left hungry that's for sure , there was always a lot of action going on , but sometime just sitting around the kitchen table with a cup of coffee , you stumach would hurt from all the laughter , rest in peace aunty ❤
