Obituary

Lora Locke Harper passed away in Kennesaw, Georgia on Thursday, January 17, 2013 after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. She was born in Cullomburg, Alabama on September 26, 1941 and was a longtime resident of Mobile. She is preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Robert B. Harper, her parents, Betty and D.C. Locke and brother Harmon Locke. She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Harper Lawley (Kevin) and three grandchildren: Jennifer Lauren Reid, George Julian Reid IV, and Adam Harper Lawley, all of Kennesaw, Georgia. Lora Locke Harper passed away in Kennesaw, Georgia on Thursday, January 17, 2013 after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease. She was born in Cullomburg, Alabama on September 26, 1941 and was a longtime resident of Mobile.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Robert B. Harper, her parents, Betty and D.C. Locke and brother Harmon Locke.

She is survived by her daughter, Lisa Harper Lawley (Kevin) and three grandchildren: Jennifer Lauren Reid, George Julian Reid IV, and Adam Harper Lawley, all of Kennesaw, Georgia.

Mrs. Harper is a graduate of South Choctaw High School in Silas, Alabama. She earned a Bachelor's Degree in Education from Livingston College (now University of West Alabama) and a Master's Degree in Education from the University of South Alabama. Mrs. Harper taught typing and other high school business education classes for the Catholic Archdiocese of Mobile for more than 40 years at Convent of Mercy, Bishop Toolen, and McGill-Toolen High Schools. She also worked alongside her husband at his engineering firm, Harper and Garratt Engineering, which was later purchased by Thompson Engineering.

Funeral services will be held at 10 A.M. on Monday, January 21, 2013 from the chapel of Radney Funeral Home, Saraland. The family will receive friends from 6 P.M. until 8 P.M. on Sunday, January 20, 2013 at the funeral home. Interment will be in Pine Crest Cemetery West, on Snow Road.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to The McGill-Toolen Foundation in memory of Lora Harper, 1501 Old Shell Road, Mobile, AL. 36604 or to The Alzheimer's Association at alz.org or 800-272-3900.
