Lorenzo David Allen, born April 8, 1943 to Joe and Nicolasa Allen in Houston, Texas, passed away September 20, 2010 in Houston. Mr. Allen is preceded in death by his parents, and is survived by children, Juan Allen and wife Kellie, Andrea Allen, and Crystal Allen and fiancé Matthew Seeds; grandchildren, Gloria, Ashley, and Marcello Allen, and Julia Delarosa; his "Mama Bear" Ann Bench, and by other family and many friends. Mr. Allen graduated from Reagan High School, and served his country proudly in the Army during the Vietnam era. He enjoyed Big Band music and dancing, and acted in a couple of plays. Lorenzo David Allen, born April 8, 1943 to Joe and Nicolasa Allen in Houston, Texas, passed away September 20, 2010 in Houston. Mr. Allen is preceded in death by his parents, and is survived by children, Juan Allen and wife Kellie, Andrea Allen, and Crystal Allen and fiancé Matthew Seeds; grandchildren, Gloria, Ashley, and Marcello Allen, and Julia Delarosa; his "Mama Bear" Ann Bench, and by other family and many friends.

Mr. Allen graduated from Reagan High School, and served his country proudly in the Army during the Vietnam era. He enjoyed Big Band music and dancing, and acted in a couple of plays. Lorenzo liked cooking, was an avid gardener, and for many years was an active member of the Men's Garden Club of Houston. He was a history buff who loved telling stories. Lorenzo liked helping people, and gave everyone a nickname. He loved all animals, big or small, wild or tame. He will be greatly missed.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, September 23, 2010 in the Chapel of Heights Funeral Home, where a vigil service will begin at 7:00 p.m. A graveside service with military honors will be held 9:30 a.m. Friday, September 24, 2010 in Houston National Cemetery. Those wishing to attend should meet at the cemetery in the parking lot behind the administration building by 9:15 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations may be made to the American Diabetes Association or a local burn center.
