AMES, Lorraine B. (Ellis), 88, of Scituate, died January 21, 2011, at the Life Care Center in Scituate. Mrs. Ames was born and raised in Rockland. While her husband, the late Brainerd C. Ames, served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, Mrs. Ames worked in a webbing factory. Upon her husband's return, they moved to Scituate, and started a family. After their four children began school, Mrs. Ames (despite her small size) worked as the stern "man" for her husband on their commercial lobster boat, much to the dismay of other fishermen's wives! Mrs. Ames loved to tell stories about her lobstering days - how she'd been pinched by the lobsters while attempting to peg them, her continual sea-sickness, and the frostbite she'd suffered! Her door was always open and a pot of hot coffee ready for all who dropped by. She loved to visit her fishermen friends on the Town Pier and was a second mother to the Lydon clan. Mrs. Ames is survived by her daughter, Carol A. Murdock, of Pepperell, MA; three sons: Brainerd C. Ames, Jr. (and his wife, Helen) of Scituate, MA; David E. Ames of Scituate, MA, and Fred L. Ames (and his wife, Christine) of Middleton, NH; eight grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; her sister-in-law, Muriel Ellis; three nieces; and her loving "family" at the Life Care Center. Funeral from the Richardson-Gaffey Funeral Home, 382 First Parish Rd., Scituate on Monday, January 24th at 9AM followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary of the Nativity, Scituate at 10AM. Interment to follow in Cudworth Cemetery, Scituate. Visiting hours will be on Sunday from 2PM-6PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Activity Depart. of the Life Care Center, 309 Driftway, Scituate, MA 02066.

Antie Lorraine Ames (actually my cousin) was a big part of our lives growing up we share lots of great memmories of our younger days in Scituate with her and her family.
She lived next door to us when we were kids growing up. My sister Milly and I visited her lots of times in her home and the nursing home her spirit was always great. Her children spent many days at our home in Rockland, MA. We will miss her but her laughter and gentle spirit will live in our hearts forever. Condolences to her family from Gloria, Milly,George,Lawrence, Donald, & Francis. Lots of Love Always Gone from our sight but never ever forgotten.
