He joined the Army in June, 1941, and served until October 1945. His overseas assignment was in Europe as a member of the 99th Infantry Division. He was awarded three Bronze Stars for action in the Rhineland, Central Europe, and Ardennes Campaigns.

Louis worked at the Davenport Works of ALCOA, retiring in 1976. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Rock Island, Trio Lodge #57 A.F. & A.M., VFW Post 9128, and the 99th Infantry Association.

Mr. Blackmon was an avid golfer and was proud of his "hole in one" trophy. He and his wife loved traveling in their RV – they spent many winters in Florida. He enjoyed working in his yard and tinkering with his cars and other machinery.
