Obituary

Louis P. Chiappetta of Madison, CT passed away on Sunday, November 17, 2013, after a brief illness. He was born in Stamford, CT on October 26, 1916. Louie, as he was known to his family and friends, was married for 71 years to the former Lena Ottaviano, who predeceased him. He is survived by his son, Louis and his wife Katherine; his daughter, Patricia Thal and her husband Eric; his granddaughter, Mary Onacilla and he r husband Brian; his grandson Aaron Thal; and two great-grandsons, Parker and Kyle Onacilla. Louis P. Chiappetta of Madison, CT passed away on Sunday, November 17, 2013, after a brief illness. He was born in Stamford, CT on October 26, 1916. Louie, as he was known to his family and friends, was married for 71 years to the former Lena Ottaviano, who predeceased him. He is survived by his son, Louis and his wife Katherine; his daughter, Patricia Thal and her husband Eric; his granddaughter, Mary Onacilla and he r husband Brian; his grandson Aaron Thal; and two great-grandsons, Parker and Kyle Onacilla.

Louie served with the U. S. Navy's amphibious forces in World War II and participated in several landings in the southern Pacific, including those at Leyte and Liangyan Gulfs that led to the liberation of the Phillipines. Prior to his military service and following his honorable discharge, he worked at MarLe Company, an electrical wholesaler, in Stamford where he rose to become general manager. He retired in 1992. In 1998, he and Lena moved to Madison. Louie was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 2096, in Madison.

Louie was known for his good humor and generosity toward family and friends. He enjoyed telling stories involving his experiences as playing football as a young man, his time in the Navy and humorous events that involved friends, family and himself. He enjoyed golf, dining out, his wife's fabulous Italian cooking and household projects, and was fond of ice cream, pizza and hot dogs.

Funeral arrangements are being handled by Swan's Funeral Home of Madison CT. Calling hours are on Thursday, November 21st, from four to seven PM. He will be buried besides his wife in West Cemetery in Madison on Friday, November 22nd , at 11AM.

The family wishes to thank the staff of VITAS Innovative Hospice Care, The Hearth at Tuxis Pond, and Nerisa's Home Care Services for the love and support they provided to both Louie and his family.
