Louis J. Milone 90
Retired Businessman, WWII Veteran

Louis J. Milone, 90, of Castleton Corners, a retired local businessman and World War II Veteran, died peacefully at the Addeo Hospice House on November 2, 2013 with his family at his bedside.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, New York, Mr. Milone moved his family to Staten Island in 1956.
During WWII he served in the U.S. Army's 96th Infantry Division at the rank of Tech Sargent and was a Battlefield Medic during the Battles of Okinawa and Lete Gulf. In the Lete Gulf Campaign, he received the Purple Heart and was awarded two Bronze Stars for his valor in helping to rescue a wounded soldier trapped behind enemy lines. "That's just the kind of man he was and how he lived his life" said his son, Jim. "He was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need."
In 1958 he became the Charter President of the North Shore Kiwanis Club and served as an active member for 55 years. He very much enjoyed his weekly Wednesday night meetings at the Staaten, the friendship and camaraderie of the members and the great charitable work they did for the Staten Island Community.
In 1965 he founded and was President of D.M.A.S. Insurance Agency (Doyle, Milone, Applebaum & Stillman) and served in that capacity for over 30 years before his retirement in 1995.
An avid runner, Mr. Milone was often seen jogging in Clove Lakes Park and was a long-time member of the Y.M.C.A in West Brighton where he served on the Board of Directors. 1977, he was elected "Man of the Year" for his tireless work in helping to build that organization's membership.
In his leisure time, Mr. Milone enjoyed golfing, playing Texas hold-em with his friends and relaxing at home while watching the Yankees play. He absolutely loved his holiday backyard BBQ's and spending time with his family. "He was the true patriarch of our family. Always loving, always caring and always giving. He had a long, wonderful life with a family that loved him dearly" said his daughter Joanne.
Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Marie, five children, Rosemary, Nicie, Jim, Joanne and Tina, Son-in-Law, Bruno, Daughter-in-Law, Debbie, 11 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and one great grandchild due in May.
