Louise was born in Lafayette but spent most of her childhood at the Sulphur Mines. She graduated suma cum laude from Sulphur High School and was a majorette for the marching squad in her Junior and Senior years. Louise attended Southwestern Louisiana Institute (now ULL) and was a member of Delta Zeta Sorority. While in college, she became engaged to David C. Tyndall, prior to his leaving the country for World War II. As a devoted fiancé, she wrote a letter to him every day for two years while Dave was overseas.
Shortly after her fiancé returned from France and Germany, Louise and Dave were married. They moved to Houston for David to finish pharmacy school at the University of Houston. Louise worked at Humble Oil to help support her husband through school. The couple returned to Louisiana in 1951. Louise raised three children prior to opening her bridal gift shop, The China Closet. For many years Louise and Dave worked next door to each other in their respective businesses. Then upon retiring, they traveled the U.S. and abroad. She often said that her favorite place to be was anywhere as long as she was with her beloved husband.
Louise was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She leaves behind the love of her life, her husband of 63 years, David Craig Tyndall of Sulphur; two daughters, Susan Dorsett of Lake Charles and Nancy Morgan and her husband, Don, of Baton Rouge; one son, Craig Tyndall and wife, Regina of French Settlement. Louise, know as "Granweese" loved her grandchildren, Kristi Sonnier and husband Chad; Kara Giovannelli and husband Leonardo; Katie Coyne, Christopher Tyndall, Jake Morgan, Matthew Morgan, Shannon Tyndall, Katherine Wilde, Kimberly Kelley, Kerissa Tyndall, Cameron Tyndall, Kelley Rose Tyndall, Christian Tyndall, and Kourtneigh Tyndall; four great-grandchildren; and her brother, Dr. William D. Pelletier and wife Donna of Lafayette.
Louise was preceded in death by her parents, Durkee and Helen Pelletier; her brother, James Lewis Pelletier; and also by her grandparents, W. W. Lewis and Lula V. Lewis. W. W. Lewis Middle School in Sulphur was named after her grandfather. Her children all attended this school.
Her funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 23, in Maplewood First Baptist Church. The Rev. Paul Estess and Bro. Johnny Peel will officiate. Burial will be in Mimosa Pines Cemetery South in Carlyss under the direction of Hixson-Sulphur Memorial Funeral Home.
